Keep your friday (next week) open because it's time for some GameBox action.

Heres the deal. I have gotten the OK to bring GameBox into work for some MASSIVE PIPE usage. :)

GB hooks into our cisco at 200Mbt, and from the cisco to the OC-12 / ATM to the backbone of the midwest internet channel.

Pretty much, low pings and plenty of Pipe.

BUT.... (there's always a but. :) )

I'm not happy with two things that I think we can have fixed by that time.

CPU cooling. I need better heat sinks on the CPU's before I really want them to leave my hands. I am looking at here.

I have $80 dollars in the pool to buy hardware with. Now for the expensive part.

Before this box leaves my hands, I want to have an additional 128 to 256 megs of ram (2xpc-100 128meg) or PC-133. But, being that we only run at 100, make sure that the memory is stable. NOTE: We have 1 PC-133 128meg dimm and would like to keep the ram all the same.

So without any more delay.

LET's FINISH THIS BOX UP!!!!

BTW, just out of curiosity, do you have the IP address so I can see what kind of pings I will have?

I will give the new Domain name and IP address monday. We need to reboot our cisco for the new card to be active. We do that on sundays.

Are yuou sure it is the cooling that is making it unstable at 550? What voltage are you running the chips at? This is on a bp-6 correct?

The fool is trying to run them at 2.0 v. I told him he needs up the voltage to 2.1-2.2. =)

I will be running them at the 2.2, BUT I want better heat sinks on them before I do that. (Jay I know it's stable at 550 @ 2.2) I just need some better heat sinks to try to drop the temp down a little. I don't know who much space this machine will have in our server room. The big thing is the ram.

LD,

Just giving you a hard time. I dodn't remember the temps getting that hot when I ran it @ 2.2v. I think it never got above 38-42c. Not sure why they are so high now.

I did have them in my Enlight 8910 Full Tower case. That thing had 6 fans total, not including the fans on the HeatSinks, so that probably helped some.

Actually, that case is just stitting in my office empty right now. I've gone back to using mid-towers as I have 3 PCs in my office and I need the space. I'd offer to sell it to you, but the shipping on that bad biy wouldn't be cheap.

Alright!

But I gotta agree with other folks, we need to have some UT matches against other teams! I mean I like fragging the heck out of you guys and all, but one of the things that got me onto TA, was that I was needed to help the team against another team in CTF/Assault(UT) back when I first joined... it was held on a Saturday, I think.

NWM, SysOpt is going to be there to kick our Arse in. Now if we had more ram on the box, we might do better. :)

What heatsinks are on there now?
and are you asking for some more donations to buy heastsinks, and sdram?
(sorry if this is already covered, i'm feeling a bit thick today)

Not a problem, I have 80 dollars of cash flow for us to use.

We need

128 to 256 megs of ram (pc-100, I do have PC-133 128 meg already in there so I want to keep with the 133) Plus the ram needs to be able to run stable at 100Mhz, and or maybe 103 :)

We need

2 really GOOD heat sink's for this. I have a nice dedicated air channel duct tubeing that takes heat off of the CPU's and ram with AC powered fans.

Is this server going to be in Utah? Im guessing from your e-mail address...

Theres some really nice servers in Colorado, at CU, in Boulder (I THINK??) Heh.. Which People all over the continent seem to ping really well to.. 130 or lower mostly.. people on the east coast ping a little higher, but generally nice pings all over. I for one ping abou 120 from up here in Canada, and like 1-2% PL. They are very nice servers.

BTW, They are NCA servers, if any of you are familiar with them. TFC/CS/Q3F

Yeah, it's going to be sitting on an OC-12 (shared, of course) that runs into Xmission (a popular Utah ISP... and where L__D happens to work). It'll be a Linux box, and L__D is up for suggestions as to games to install servers for, although they will have to have a Linux server (obviously).

At least that's my understanding of the facts. If I'm wrong, L__D will be more than happy to whap me and lay out the truth.
