I was thinking that after seeing the confirmed specs of the GTX 280 and GTX 260. It might be financially prudent to sell my 9800GX2 quickly before it devalues substantially in a matter of couple of weeks.

I wouldn't miss not having a card for a month at least as I have finished a whole lot of my PC games and am fully occupied by my 360 and GTA 4 in specific. Just want a quick thoughts from you guys.

Thanks

EDIT: After reading the review of GT200 on Anandtech boy am I glad I didn't sell it :D

I sold mine already. The resale value went from close to $500 last week to closer to $400 or less this week. I wasn't too happy with only getting $400 for mine, but after seeing cards listed as NIB getting less I guess I can't complain. I don't think anyone who bought one of these thought it would be an investment, or have a terribly long lifespan.

If your card is new enough for you to be able to step up when the GTX 280 launches that would be your best bet. Mine was already a step-up from an 8800GTS 512, so I didn't have that option.

I'm in the same boat as you nitromullet, it was a step up from 8800GTS 512 which I overpaid for at launch. Oh yeah I never think of graphic cards as investments, you always lose money on them, but if you time your jump right you end up losing less money and still stay on the bleeding edge.

Kind of in the same boat as you... I have the 3870X2. I was going to dump it and put the 1950 back in but started thinking I'm just playing LOTR online now and bought the lifetime membership because I see myself playing it for some time.
Right now im getting 60 to 90fps in game and it seems to get better with every driver so I'm keeping mine. So all said and done do you need to power for what you run/play?

Well I have this financially foolish habit of indulging in the latest toys, I usually am very frugal with everything else, I guess every man has their weakness. I'm currently able to run every game (except crysis of course) maxed, I'm just looking ahead at the titles coming up Far Cry 2 and GTA 4 when it comes out on PC eventually (seeing how it struggles on my 360). I work very hard for my money, in my final year of engineering and view these toys as a reward for my hard work. Though to each man to his own.

I don't think Far Cry 2 is going to tax your current PC, mainly because it's a multi-platform game. I think the graphics will be downgraded for consoles, anyway I've seen FC2 graphics aren't very high in quality, yes it looks good cuz they've made good use of lightning and diffusion. Good amount of light over low detailed objects makes it look cool no matter how crappy it is. btw I've had the habit of buying gadgets every few weeks, the best lesson I've learned is to have a definite upgrade cycle like I decide to upgrade every 10 to 14 months, in this techno world new things keep popping up and the best thing to do is enjoy the present.

Thanks Aberforth!! I did need that, I ended the listing on ebay, there is no game that the card cannot play. You are right about Far Cry 2, sources indicate that it will be less taxing than Crysis which I'm able to play great on High. I think I will take a break from constantly upgrading (since last summer :-/) and enjoy my purchase. I think this card will do great for me for at least one year, then upon graduation (aka getting a real job :D) a refresh of GT200 will be mine :D
