keep no recently viewed Documents

in my xp pro i set it to keep no recently viewed documents.

can xp home be set to keep no recently viewed documents ?
 
Should be under task bar properties just like in pro. Not sure here since I have pro and not home. Never messed with home, to me I think home is just a clone of pro with lots of stuff removed needlessly.
 
Does this work?

Registry changes:
"....go to the HKEY_CURRENT_USER and expand it by clicking the small plus sign. Next scroll down to the Software option and again expand this by clicking the small plus sign. Now scroll to the Microsoft option and again click the small plus to expand the field. Next the option to expand is Windows, same deal hit the plus. Then click the plus next to the option Current Version, and then Policies, and finally explorer. Make sure you click on the folder labeled explorer so that you can see the options in the folder. We will need to make a new option inside this folder, to do this click scroll your mouse over into the white space next to the folder tree, right click and move your mouse over the option NEW and the drop down will fill out. In here you will want to choose DWORD and in the new window you will want to name the file, NoRecentDocsMenu, (this must be spelled properly and is case sensitive). Once you have this completed successfully you will need to right click on this option and click modify. You will want the value to be a 1, this will set the option to off, and the recently viewed documents option will not display as one of the start menu options."
 
didnt work!

it did however remove "Documents" from the menu, in xp pro i used "gpedit.msc" and changed it in there, but "gpedit.msc" doesnt work in xp home

Did you name the DWORD value with the correct case-senitive letters (NoRecentDocsMenu)? I've seen other web pages that give the same instructions.

Also, this page by an MS MVP says that you need to change s different Key for the Windows "Classic" Start Menu.
 
tried that page also, still no luck.

does xp home have a group policy that you could make the change like xp pro ?
 
I just fired up my Windows XP Home Retail VM and has "list my recently viewed documents checkbox" in customize start menu/advanced option. the same place as pro version.
 
found it in the standard start menu, removed the check mark from "list my most recently opened documents",applied, i then cleared those "recently opened documents" and rebooted, back at the desktop i opened some word and picture files, closed those and then went to "Documents" in the menu and recently viewed documents that i had opened were there again, it seems that the check mark in "list my most recent documents" has no effect, i dont know what gives there. it wont take the setting.

this is a fresh install xp home with sp3 and all updates, scanned with avg 8, only on the net for updates, java, adobe flash player, i have run the western digital floppy for hard drive errors and that came up clean and healthy, i am not sure a reload will fix it.

does anybody else uncheck the box that can validate that "no recently viewed documents" setting works in xp home?
 
i am signed as admin, its a fresh install, i never thought it would be so involved in for a simple setting.

i want documents to show in the menu.

i donot want see "recently viewed documents"

ive been through that 15 times in windows xp home, also went through it in safe mode, followed all the post replies here = nothing has been sucessfull.

i donot want to "HIDE" Documents in the start MENU, i just donot want "Recently Viewed Docs" to appear anywhere on my screen !



Here is what worked in XP Pro

if XP Pro you can use Group Edit...
Start | Run | Type: gpedit.msc | Click OK |
Navigate to >>>
User Configuration\Administrative Templates\Start Menu and Taskbar
Do not keep history of recently opened documents

<The above Works> but only in pro.



in XP Home "gpedit.msc" typed into the "Run" box results in "Windows cannot find "gpedit.msc"

if someone has a way using gpedit in home i would like to here about it, but all the post above have not worked !
 
I just tried to see what was up using my Windows XP Home Retail VM and I can turn on an off the recently used folder from the start menu no problem using the check box there so I am not sure if you wanted to do something else
 
it may be a glitch with an "oem" install, i never could get it to work on that pc, its not really something that i am so concerned about to do a fresh install so ill just let it be, thanks for the help though, i dont think theres a "Group Policy" on an oem home version, least i couldnt find it. Thanks
