I am upgrading my computer, and i am centering my upgrade around overclocking. Ill be running some bh5 Buffalo ddr3200, a b core dlt3c 1700+, and probobly an 8rda+. I have an 8045 with a ys tech fan that pushes just a little under 50cfm. I will be using that same fan for any heatsink that i get. Should i spend the $30 and get an slk800? the $50 and get the slk900 (maybe spend the extra and get a 92mm fan with it)? would my performance gains really be that great? Thanks

If you're a gamer, that money might be better spent toward the next-faster video card, if you're not at the top of the food chain already. Just a

The Alpha is a fine heatsink. If you want significantly better performance, go watercooling :) I doubt that upgrading from Alpha 8045 to SLK800 allow you to get a higher overclock.

Yep, keep your 8045. My 8045 w/32cfm fan is enough to cool my 1700+ @ 2.2ghz.

Either keep the PAL or go Watercooling unless Vapochill/Prometia take your fancy and wallet size.

If Prometia/Vapochill fit your wallet, fancy giving me some $$$'s?

Actually i talked my school into giving a few of these old airconditioning wall units that they were getting rid of. I am gonna make my own chiller and will be running negative degree temps hopefully. Im still working out all the legal details with them but i will have like 3 free acs by summer. Then ill convert to water cooling.

The only step up worth taking from a 8045 would be watercooling... an slk900 will barely edge out the 8045 - definitely not enough to justify spending the money. Now, watercooling is pricey but you do get what you paid for in noise and performance and the difference is definitely more noticeable than changing heatsinks.

Negative temps sound quite cool (pun intended) but watch out for Condensation problems. Water is not a friend of computer parts when they are pumped with electricity.
