Even when I have no programs open. It is a messenger agent of some sort, I even got one that said it would sell me software to get the pop-ups to end. Anyone know how to get these things to stop? I have popup stopper pro installed, and I noticed that the messages started after I installed it. Does this piece of software enable a different sort of Popups?

It's a deal with AIM/Yahoo/Other Messenger programs as far as I know.

I've had a lot recently as well.

Its an exploit of the messenger service in Win2K and XP. It has nothing to do with spyware or any of the internet chat clients, and its not a virus. It was an innocuous little service that was really meant for people to send quick messages over a lan or network to one another in the office. Most software firewalls and router/hardware firewalls will disable it by masking your IP, but you can simply disable it in admin tools/services.

You guys aren't talking about the Windows Messenger program in the Program Files folder, right? I went aheand and disabled the Messenger service in control panel/admin tools/services, which isn't related to Windows Messenger.
