<< I am a casual user or marijuana, and i dont "need" it to have fun, i just use it because it is fun >>

Isn't there enough fun things to do in this world that don't cause lung cancer, or loss of brain cells?

so simply because beer is legal makes it ok to drink?

I did not say that

simply due to the fact that our country has an ass backwards drug policy?

It may be ass backwards, but it is the law

i can't ever seem to grasp this reasoning; "well its legal, so beer and cigarettes must be better for me then marijuana".

Never said that either

I am a casual user or marijuana, and i dont "need" it to have fun

Apparently you do otherwise you would not use it.

Although most people don't agree with the drug laws in this country, it still is the law. It simply is NOT worth the risk of paying fines and going to jail just to use the drug. Maybe one day if it is legalized, I will try it. I value my freedom and a clean record...

I love how people attach drug use with ignorance, or stupidity, or addiction.
Mar!juana has been around for longer then any one person on this forum.
It has been used in more ways and methods over the thousands of years then any of our contemporary resources.
Some of the poeple you consider the smartest and the leaders of todays world were and ARE using drugs.
The people who built the ideas and laid the foundations for technology that you are using today, were "on drugs".
But most can easily overlook that and say, it makes you stupid and its baaaad for you.
Do you want to spend the rest of your life couting things that are bad for you?
For whoever is reading this, its BAD, because of the MASSIVE amounts of radiation your eyes must endure from being on the forums for hours. Or driving your car, which destroys the ozone, which in turn bathes you in UV rays.
Which, well in short, is BAD.
But seeing people be led around like sheep by the govt and society is a wonderful laugh.
You belive things are bad, because the govt tells you they are bad. I mean this idea is nothing new.
Look at, well religion, kings, queens, dictatorships, for the past, oh,, well 4000 years.
As money, wealth, the almight buck became more important, there were more rules (laws) made to protect you from the bad. Which really just turns out to be a way for the big boys to make money.
I pity you if you follow laws that were made so long ago, and not even close to intune with societies needs and wants.

"I am a casual user or marijuana, and i dont "need" it to have fun

Apparently you do otherwise you would not use it."

I find that line gut busting funny. Why is it that he says he uses, and then immediatly he is tagged as being an addict, or in NEED OF THE WEED, just to be "normal" or have "fun"? Seems closed minded to me.
And I hope you dont think you will ever get put away for any time for personal drug use/possession.
Do you have any idea of the status of the prisons now, HAHAHAH they are letting out convicted 1st degree murderers.
You think they are going to put a minor drug user away?

But then again, I mut be bad, because i am arguing against the majority concesus as well as societies "accepted" ideals. Which seem to be more evil and seductive then any drug could ever be.

Bottom line, Keanu may have that dumb look on his face, but lemmie tell ya, people PAY to see it.
thats just a fraction of,,,,, "my opinion"

In a large city? NO. They have bigger fish to fry. In smaller communities they crack down on drug use.

True mabey at the sheriff level.
Bring it to a federal court. You wont even see the inside of the courtroom.
"Prison" is as in Federal butt rape prison. You got busted with a few joints, your most likely not going to federal prison. Mabey down south with the good ol boys, but then again, they still think the civil war is going on.

That about sums it up. Bravo!

The U.S. is hell-bent on exporting its views on drug use to other countries. Actually, a condition for financial aid is the alignment to U.S. legal standards on drugs.

In 1998, the United Nations produced a report (on which they worked for several years) on drug use. The conclusion was that marijuana is not as evil as portrayed typically in official documents.
Another observation of the report was that one of the major reasons why people die from heavy drug use (ie heroin) is because the drugs are "homebrewed", impure, and used in improper conditions. If they would be produced in regular laboratories, with instructions for use and warnings, this would at least limit the damage, and allow for curing addictions. States could even tax them, like liquor.

Far-fetched?

The U.S. askes the United Nations to bury the report, threatening with cutting funds. The U.N. complied.

Things are just like during prohibition: 1) you don't stop people from using alcohol and 2) you have a lot of poisoning from all kind of moonshine and harmful alcohols. Most important, 3) by outlawing the production of alcohol, you create the premises for underground producers and mafia-like networks, organized crime and so on.

They also wanted to export the "gift" of prohibition to other countries ("let them see the light...")

Prohibition was one of the most stupid mistakes of the 20th century. Yet, it was the law of the land. Just like some people said earlier! ...yeah, right, leave it to authorities to do what's best for you! Can't help but wonder if all the above righteous would have stayed "dry" in the Prohibition Years, following the same logic they do now.

Keanu Reeves is brave to admit using drugs, in a society as hypocritical as modern American society. None of his detractors ever even stopped to ask themselves the question "did he do drugs in the U.S. or while on vacation in Holland - where they are accepted?"

All the data I've mentioned above exists in public documents, and it was quoted in a big special section of a Canadian newspaper, the Ottawa Citizen. I'm not sure about web links. For all other considerents, skeptics and zealot Christians are invited to check my sig.

if marijuana causes lung cancer, why hasnt there been a single death as a direct result of marjuana? Why did the american medical association not support the ban on marijuana?
Does anyone know how long the senate debate on marijuana prohibition lasted?

90 seconds

two questions were asked during this long and detailed debate.

1) "uh...what is this bill about?"
to which was answered "i dont know..something about marijuana"
2) "does the american medical association support this bill?"
to which was answered "we have their full support", a complete and blatant lie.

Because of racism and greed, we are left with this: stereotypes. Because of pop culture, someone who uses marijuana is automatically thought of as less intelligent and a bumbling idiot who cannot piece sentancs together properly.

i for one, don't feel i should stand by and let this injustice continue simply because "its the law". We celebrate Martin Luther King day today, and somehow i dont think he agreed to live in substandard conditions just because "it was the law". If a law is unjust, reform is needed, correct? Why live under unjust laws? We have cancer sticks and poison in glass bottles easily accessible to youth, but we outlaw a plant less harmful then a piece of chocolate. why continue when your precious tax dollars (not to mention human lives) are being wasted for this "war on drugs"? due to mandatory minimums, a nonviolent first time marijuana possesion offender can serve as much time as a kidnapper. but i suppose we should just let that be because "its the law", right? we should let out violent criminals out of prison faster so we can make room for the ever rising possesion offenders. the war on drugs has been waged for a long time now, i think long enough to guage whether this battle has been effective or not. so ask yourself - has it? Has drug use become a thing of the past due to the valiant efforts of the dea? i think you can answer that for yourself.

so...if this solution is not working, the logical approach would be to think of an alternative, correct? but then again, i suppose we should just blindly follow the law as our shepard, despite the fact that the way the shepard leads us is in the wrong direction.

but then again, TV has convinced you that I am stupid because i choose to use marijuana instead of alcohol, so i guess you can disregard my opinions on the matter.

I think I read somewhere that Keanu broke his ankle filming the Matrix sequels. Anyone else here this? Is it true?

For one thing, you spelled sentences wrong. Also shepherd somewhere else in your post.

Because of pop culture, you're saying we have anti-drug stereotypes? Uhhhhh, do the 70's ring any bells for you? Not much anti drug messages in the pop culture there.
And racism and greed? Do you have monkeys working around the clock, typing your posts for you? Where did they come in to this discussion?

You'll notice in my earlier post, I neither condoned nor condemned marijuana use. I was merely pointing of the absolute rediculous-ness of your little pot/potato brain fart. I personally see nothing much wrong with its use, IN MODERATION. That's not to say it's not bad for you. You can't tell me with a straight face that ingesting one form of smoke into your lungs is bad for you (cigs), and yet another form isn't (pot). Lighten the hell up, all of you. You're supposed to RELAX when you smoke, remember????????

harpomx--

I'm not taking issue with the rest of your post, but pointing out a couple of spelling errors (that probably would have been corrected with proofreading) is kind of lame. I mean, judging from his grammar, the guy is obviously an intelligent person. Why attack spelling errors? We all make them, and oftentimes it's a simple typing mistake.

It just seems wrong to try to discredit someone because of a couple of misspelled words. MHO of course...

l2c

Edit: Spelling :)

heh heh, l2c, I was just going to point out your mistype of "judging", but you fixed it!!!
Just joking, and your right, my apologies, gUEv, if I attacked you a little too harshly.

I'm just saying, that if "pop culture" is going to be considered as taking a stance either way, it would likely be on the pro side, not the con. Pot is showing up on all kinds of TV shows, and not in a bad way either. That said, I don't think you can blame pop culture for any anti-drug stereotypes that may or may not exist today. If anything, you can thank it for making people's views more lax and relaxed.

gUEv, I also strongly disagree with your opinion that it less harmful than a piece of chocolate. Once again, if you're inhaling smoke from a burning cigarette, a burning jay, a burning chunk of wood, a burning piece of rubber, etc. etc., it is not good for your lungs. It is smoke, and smoke is not meant to be inhaled.

I think pot should be legalized but I don't want it to be...I'm in HS and I could get a dime bag easier than a 12 pack of beer.
