I just called because my KDS AV-195TF is making a high pitched sound at low resolutions and the tube has gotten this insane brightness to it. I'm doing their advanced placement where if I don't return the monitor I have after 30 days, I get billed for it.

They told me that my model of monitor is on backorder for a couple of weeks and that they'd upgrade me to a 17" LCD monitor for no additional charge. I'm really only losing like .8 of an inch in screen display and I'm getting an LCD monitor for the price of shipping back my monitor to them.

This is one of the best things I've ever seen a company do to replace an RMA. I'll definitely be sticking with them for a while. 😀
 
I've seen people knock KDS, but I'm happy with my 17in. flat CRT. In terms of price/performace ratio, I don't think it gets much better.

I've been extremely happy with my Avitron Trinitron monitor that I got for $190 bucks during the Mercata.com days. It's got a little bit of blurring along the edges and some very minor geometry issues, but otherwise, it's been a great monitor for the money.
 
I had a KDS 17".. pretty new.. but out of warranty. it started snapping extremely loud.. it eventually went up in smoke.. i took it to the dumpster out back, at work. and later got a Samsung. KDS experience is not so great 😛

I had an OLLLLD 17" monitor that didn't work right. I called them up and they replaced it for return shipping costs as well, even though it was out of warranty. I've had a couple of their monitors fail, but their customer service with them is unlike any other company's I've seen.
 
i have a 19in KDS Xflat i got at walmart for 180$ and its fukin greaT. DOES 1600X1200 @ 75Hz. man i love it
 
Well Mother fscker! I just pasted some crap over my long reply. fsck, all that time wasted. Anyway long story short:

Their speedy replacement is only good the first time. The 2nd one I had to ship it myself and the 3rd one I returned it to their RMA center.

Good thing you got the AV and not the POS VS.

I checked out the KDS LCD's and they don't hold a candle to my Samsung 191T

They probably aren't as good as a lot of other monitors, but it's definitely an upgrade for me. 🙂
 
I've had to replace my KSD AV-19tf because it wouldnt hold the picture steady. Some of the lines of pixels would vibrate up and down.

I got the same RMA deal the one thing is that their box and or shipping materials smelled alot like fish... dont ask me...

How are you liking the 17" LCD? Which model of the Rad-7 specifically did they send you?

Ive got a 17" AV-7TF and love it. No problems yet (been about a year), but hopefully their RMA service is still good if my monitor goes bad in the future
 
I like their RMA program "KARES"
I bought a monitor back in 2000, rma'd it once, and their 3 year warrenty seems to start all over on the replacement monitor 🙂 W00t....yeah kds is great for support we have a couple around here, and hehe ive been procrastinating on rmaing my av195tf until i saw this thread, now i too have a rad7 on the way 🙂 Great company.
 
Their old warranty apparently was nice. The new one isn't as good. They put in it place sometime before I got my 19" lcd (no clue when it was put in place) in May 02. Apparently now the monitors come with 3 years labor and 1 years parts. So after May if anything goes wrong with this monitor I have to pay for parts. 1 year parts isn't too bad I suppose, but I like the old warranty where everything was supposedly 3 years parts and labor.
 
Two things about KDS.
1. Their RMA program is very good
2. Their monitors are cr@p

I have the same monitor you had. The 19 inch FD trinitron.
It was good for about 2.5 years, then last year, all of the sudden it got that high pitch sound, and then one day smoke came out of the back, and it was toast.
So I called KDS, they were great, sent me a refurbished same model, I had to pay shipping one way.
That one died after 1 day of use 🙁
They then sent me a replacement for that, paid both ways, via Airborne Express. Do you know how much that costs for a 60 LB package. Granted I am close in SF (they are in L.A)
The new monitor is working, but it's not perfect. when I press the degauss key, it makes really loud noise, like a freight train horn. It had the high pitch a couple times now too.
And there are some oil stains on the AR coating on the edges. So far it's all right, but it will be going back to KDS if it starts acting up again. I have till september till the warranty runs out. Hopefully they'll get the point and send me a new monitor this time.
 
Ive had a total of 4 kds avitron 195tf Fd trinitrons, and the only problems ive had are loose buttons, basicly the power button starts to sink in after a year of use, when its sinked in the visual setting buttons dont work, just poke it and it will pop back out. Other then that it preforms i suppose as great as anyother trinitron tube?
