KDS Avitron Review?????

Could anyone point me to a review of the KDS Avitron AV7TF? Sam's has these for $200 and they look like a fair flat screen monitor for the price. Only concern is the 1 yr. warranty vs. 3 yr, for other simular priced monitors i.e. ViewSonic.

Go take a look at cnet individual opinions. I always comb these just to get an overall feel. Only 14 opinions on this monitor, which isn't many. So I take the 80% thumbs up with a grain of salt. (generally good products with around 50 opinions seem to have around 90%). General consensus seems to be a decent 17" trinitron monitor for 200$, one individual even claims it betters than the Sony 200ES on the same hardware, which it might be.

I have two of the KDS Trinitron tube 17" monitors and they both work great. The newer one is the flat screen version. I believe both of mine came with 3 year warranties, and the touted "KARES" replacement system. Supposedly if your monitor goes bad, they overnight you a new one and you return your old one in the box the new one came in with prepaid freight. I haven't had the opportunity to test the warranty yet, since my monitors continue to work well in the year or two that I have been using them.

Only 1 year warranty? If it's new it should have a 3yr warranty with the KARES program like Novice said.

I hear people have there KDS's go bad on them but if they do they get a new one right away with KDS paying for shipping.

Yep my uncle had the visual senstions 17 inch and when it went bad kds replaced it within 3 days and paid shipping for both ways. Their KARES program is really great. I was so impressed with it and thier monitors I went out and got the Avitron 19 inch and am loving it.

Thanks for the responses. In checking the KDS website, I found the info on the 3 yr warranty and the replacement program. They state you are only resposible for return shipping of the old monitor. This ain't bad!!!!!

Think I will try one of these. Only wish the 19" was a little cheaper, but think the 17" will do fine for me.

I had to pay return shipping on mine, and it was jersey-cali, so it kinda smarted.

Overal an excellent monitor for the price, but don't be suprised if you have to swap it out once.

I have the 19-Inch Avitron. It came new with a 3-year warrenty and qualifies for KDS's KARES program.

My impression so far is that KDS monitors are a good product for the price - but definitely not the highest quality product available. I had to replace my monitor about 3 months after purchasing it since it was having some weird color problems while a friend of mine has a similar 19-inch Micron Trinitron which is several months older and has never had any problems whatsoever. The Micron unit "feels" a bit more solid as well.

KDS's Kares program is Excellent though. I called up their customer service and they FedEx'd me a new monitor (took about 5 days) and payed for shipping. After that, I just had to pack up my old monitor in the shipping crate and call their customer service reps again. They scheduled a time for FedEx to come to me to pick up the defective unit and paid for shipping that way too. - Very Impressive.

I must say that since i got my KDS 17 in. monitor that I am very pleased with it. I even paid $350 for it about 6 months ago. But I am certainly considering a KDS for my next monitor. Oh and the only problem I have had is the god darn plug. It will give squiggly lines if not in screwed down very tight into the video port. I have also noticed this same thing on 3 other KDS 17 inch monitors. On all of them you can only screww 1 of the 2 screws down tight the other feels like it is crossthreading. Oh and dont think you will get very good quality with an extension. I have tried 4 and all of them cause the same squigly lines to appear.
Other than that it is a great monitor. 🙂
