My 17" KDS also has these two horizontal lines. It's normal. Did you notice any out-of-focus problem at the corners?

Hey. Like others have said, the lines are normal... one line about 1/4 of the way from the top, another about 2/3 down. They are obvious if you're looking for them, but very faint. I'll trade the lines for the image quality, color brightness and depth, and crisp & clear text.

You will have the lines on all trinitron monitors, its normal. I only see mine if i look for them. I have the KDS 21 and the 17. I paid 625 for the 21 and 170 from sams for the 17. I love the 21 but for 55 more i can get 4 17 KDS monitors for the price I paid for the 21.

The lines are shadows caused by dampening wires. The 15" have one, 17" & 19" have two, and some 21" have three (I think). The wires are there for stablization of the vertical wires that make up an aperture grille tube. Somewhere on the Sony site is a FAQ addressing this.

And yes, I have a couple of 19" FD Sony's and you get used to them very quickly.

I love the monitor very much. But how to sell my old Samsung 7e 17" monitor is a problem.
