I have the KDS-195T for several months now and am happy with the quality of the monitor. It is Sony quality at Samsung price. One thing that tilled me toward KDS is their warranty. They offer to send a replacement and pick up the defective unit at the user's home for 3 years. This is the best in the industry.

I have not heard from any industry insider (distributor, dealer etc.) on how low is the KDS's return rate. They will be in trouble if their quality control is not good enough. So far, I have no personal experience and have not heard much from other users on this forum. Hopefully, not too many user have to use their warranty yet.

I've got a VS-7 17" that my nephew is still using since Oct '98.
I also had the VS-190 19" that is about 8 months old and I'm using the AV-195TF for the last month.
The first AV-195TF I got was rather hot at the top. A phone call to KDS and they RMA'd it. FedX arrived at my residence at about 11:45 am the next morning to pick it up (their expense)on a Tuesday. The next day (Wednesday) at about 9:30am the same FedX man arrived with the replacement. Time without a monitor= about 22 hours.
Actually nothing was wrong with the first one. As it turns out the Avitrons run rather hot at the top since the replacement is just as hot as the first and the 17inch one at Office Depot also feels hot.

Hmm well i don't like the idea of my monitors running at such a hot temperature. Hmm and i also don't like the fact that Viewsonic monitors lack the configuing features as the sony and kds monitors do..

Wait, don't buy a monitor yet. The digital age is soon upon us. Just saw that View Sonic has released the PF77, a digital 17 incher. What do you guys think. Will this make our analog monitors outdated within a year or so? Should the new buyer wait?

Jgtdragon and amb,

Make sure that you have plenty of ventilation above the monitor. The Sony and KDS run hot. I have had co-workers who insisted on putting the monitor underneath a low hanging cabinet with the sides enclosed, it caused the case top to yellow or even darken quickly. Even though the monitor will keep working. A 6 inches or more space above the case top is recommended.

When I first got my KDS-195T, it will not fit the hutch that I custom built for the 17 inch monitor. It turned out to be a blessing is disguise. I need the open space above the monitor.

I just put that little monitor cooler fan on the top of my AV-195Tf and that little sucker really works.
You can't hear the fan and it dropped the temp at the top of the grille 13 degrees!

Dude this thing rocks. It's so big that it's intimadating. It's really WIDE too. Man I totally love it. I just set my friend's up tonight too. I was in awe while watching the Final Reality benchmark on his PIII 450@600, Voodoo 3 3000 machine. I don't know how I lived without it, already. I really liked my 17 inch Misubishi Diamondtron, but now I could care less about it. I am selling it, along with a system to a guy at my work. The first thing I'm going to buy with the cash is a bigger desk, and the second is another one of these monitors.:D

Anyone who is considering getting one of these. Believe me there is no better upgrade then this. Well unless you're running a pentium pro or something.:)
