KDE or GNOME?

Personally, i kind of like the uncluttered nature of X and the fact that it is VERY simplified with the menu at a mouse click instead of drag to button and click. But, I don't like how i have to close a window by clicking my thumb button and hitting destroy or delete window.

But I may want to change to a desktop envirorment. Which do you guys prefer?

<- running debian

blackbox or one of the imitations. I think I would go with windowmaker next, but I havent really used it much so it would take some getting used to.

KDE3 is very nice, but I also like Gnome. Gnome 1.4 was just a bit too buggy for my taste, though.

Anyone tried Gnome 2.0 yet??

Between Fluxbox and Gnome2, its tough for me. Fluxbox is quite minimal (which I like), but Gnome2 is well laid out and definitely easy to use. KDE3 is fine on my box, but it feels like there is too much installed. Of course I can remove things, but Gnome2 fits me so far.

I got the newest beta of RedHat 7.4 (or is that 8.0?) up and running today, and it's funny...KDE and Gnome look almost identical!

yea a lot of people are pissed at RH cause they look the same almost. But its RedHat's approach to get back to teh desktop market i guess

i think its awesome. i was VERY impressed when i saw that. not that i'd want to use it, but redhat obviously knows what they need to do to woo their audience. it is pretty hot lookin though 😀

if given the ultimatum, i'd probably use kde, but either way they both seem kind of clunky and imitations of windows. use openbox! (openbox.sunsite.dk)

I find it interesting that Evolution is the default email client for KDE and Gnome in this new beta...I like Evolution a lot (it kicks the $#@$ out of Outlook), but it seems strange after years of seeing Kmail.

I use fluxbox. 🙂

I used KDE3 for a while, but it still has some bugs in RH 7.3 and it is too bloated and "Windows-like" for me.... I _really_ like fluxbox.
