KDE 4.4 released

It has reached the Arch Linux repo, so I should get it tomorrow! 😀

EDIT: Small annoyance

Overall kDE SC 4.4 is great! However, to use the group tabs feature you must use qt applications.
GTK = SOL.

wow. From the Managing Windows Made Easier video

I see they got snappy windows, quick look (win 7 features) and also scale by programs (snow leopard) and some other unique new things. Now if they could only get a more integrated mail/calendar app i could leave mac lol. Its awesome they can have the best of both worlds.

Though i have never liked kde much, are those new features using compiz or kde specific? Or kde shell only? Is kde shell like gnome shell?

Just read through and watched the videos; looks real slick. I too am interested how best to install this on Ubunto 9.10.

It does look pretty damn good. Really exciting how fast KDE is going. I have never liked it, but never gave it a fair chance either lol.

I think the KDE on Windows project is fairly interesting. KDE desktop without giving up windows compatibility.

Yeah, I'm thinking of giving this a try, though 4.4 isn't available yet (as of yesterday, when I checked).

I will have to give this a try. I've always used gnome whenever I do use a GUI (only really deal with Linux on servers) but wont hurt to try something different.

I've never liked KDE. It's always come across to me as amateurish. It's very cartoony, and it looks like a knock off of a proper O/S to me. Probably not the best reason to reject it, but I like Gnome, and it's default packages. It clicked with me immediately, as opposed to KDE which felt foreign from the first login.

I installed Kubuntu 9.10 in a virtual machine via virtualbox and this is the first time in a long time I've looked at KDE (I've always tooled around with Ubuntu in the past). What/where is the package manager app in KDE? Finding Synaptic in Ubuntu and using it is cake, but not so in KDE.

I just installed KDE 4.2.2 for on my Mint box 2 days ago and IMHO XFCE 4.6 still is the better desktop manager.

I will upgrade to KDE 4.4 once it is available to compare with XFCE 4.6
