The alleged pirates were billed based on the amount of files they shared. For a single music file, they were charged $2.67; $26.70 for a movie and approximately $50 for a video game,

i'd owe alot of money

This could be a two way street. I think all RIAA members should have their tax returns audited. Of course they are angels so nothing would be found, right? Right.

If they are going to wear halos and accuse everyone of being theives, they better make sure they arent theives themselves.

And hey, I wonder if any RIAA has ever downloaded an MP3 they didnt pay for. And if they did, will they be exposed? Will they be made to pay?

If they are going to start charging for that.. we all should be charging them "storage fee". Since they are charging for filesharing, but they don't actually own where the files are being shared out of, we have to the right to charge them "storage fee". They are using our valuable storage on our computer to distribute all those MP3, movies, and games. And since they are making money out of that, we have the right to charge them that "storage fee". I don't know how much you guys are charging, but my rate is $1 per byte.

This is big news and this detection algorithm should make it here very soon.

There are anonymous ISPs out there if you're worried about mistakingly downloading a copyrighted song or something.

quote from the story:
"Lindegaard, 29, and his helpers -- four Danish university students -- developed a software program that monitored Danish file swappers on the two P2P networks"

losers.

"developed a software program"...I wonder if this group is going to share their program with other anti-piracy groups. boy, that would be the ultimate irony....anti-piracy groups sharing their files to prevent filesharing. ;)

And how they know that we don't already own the rights to each thing we have on our HDs?

Yet another reason to use newsgroups and a newsnet provider that provides anonymity (no log files, no tracking what you download).

How did they get the names ?

Username becomes IP. IP goes to ISP. IP becomes account name.

Very simple, if there's a warrant involved.

That's the thing. No mention of warrants. Just bills sent.

There are cases in US courts where ISPs are refusing to hand over user details to the RIAA.

Good thing I use Direct Connect.

Seriously, that would suck for those people that got charged. What would you do, just not pay? If they just deleted (and wiped obviously), there's nothing that could be done, right? Screw "logs" and "records."

$1 per byte x x seconds on my newly incorporated computer/server that just so happened to have sold majority shares to about 60+ people therefore ..I..as an individual am not responsible for the corporation's actions or lack thereof.

f_ck'em..Welkommen to Korporate Amerika ..biatches...:frown: hmmm...there's a tax dodge in there somewhere..;)

If I was allowed to pay 1/16th the price of an album for one song off a 16 song album, I'd do it gleefully. I just got fed up with buying an entire album for one song or paying a few dollars less than a full album for a single either of which I'd probably be sick of a week later. I will also happily pay the artist their cut of the price of an album for the entire album electronically. No big record companies means no boy band and pop princess crap shoved down our throats.
