Even though I'm sympathetic to people who steal crappy music,

Sharman, in a countersuit, claimed movie and recording industries didn't understand the digital age and were monopolizing entertainment.

^What a crock of crap that is.

Nice argument. You say it's a crock of crap... but it seems like a truthful crock of crap to me.

The RIAA, which has battled the widespread sharing of music, called Sharman's "newfound admiration for the importance of copyright law" ironic and "self-serving."

Isn't the RIAA in an equally ironic, hypocritical, and self-serving situation?

So your argument is, just because the technology is there you have the right to steal? Ok I admit I stole many things in my life, but never have I publicly filed a law suit saying I didn't do wrong.

The RIAA buys laws and judges as needed. It will get tossed out.

"The RIAA, which has battled the widespread sharing of music, called Sharman's 'newfound admiration for the importance of copyright law" ironic and "self-serving.'" :D If the rapstars with diamonds all around their necks can buy those diamonds, then I think the owners of the music companies have enough money. Sheesh :p

At this rate, Kazaa will soon have no music worth pirating at all.

Kazaa blows ass for music anyways, it is not designed around being able to download albums, only singles. (which means most of the people that use it are fans of music that is produced under the 1 good song per record deal brought to you by the RIAA) Only thing K++ is even remotely useful for is pr0n, and even that is debatable with all of the crazy kinds of it on there. Not to mention people that share on those networks are usually idiots that can't make quality encodes of movies, music, etc and tend to distribute bad, viral, or improperly named material. File sharing for the masses just doesn't work for anybody.

I often find (or dont find depending who's reading) rare songs i never even knew the band did.... Bonus tracks available only to those who bought the CD in Japan for example...

I liked this bit out of this CNN article.

RIAA drops one lawsuit
Meanwhile, the recording industry group has dropped one of the 261 lawsuits, a case filed against a 66-year-old sculptor who apparently was targeted in a case of mistaken identity.

Sarah Seabury Ward, of Newbury, Massachusetts, was accused of illegally sharing more than 2,000 songs through Kazaa, including rapper Trick Daddy's "I'm a Thug." The music companies threatened to hold her liable for up to $150,000 for each song.

After Ward's lawyer complained that Ward is a "computer neophyte" who never installed file-sharing software or downloaded any songs, the case was dropped in federal court in Boston on Friday.

What's your point. What has the developer stolen? He's simply created a place where people have the option to steal. As well as share media that's legally distributable I should add. Correct me if I'm wrong but hasn't it been rulled several times that operators of p2p networks aren't responsible for what is shared across the network? I could be wrong on that but I thought that's been rulled several times.

So unless it's found that Kazaa's developer is either downloading or sharing copyrighted material I don't see how he's on anything but firm ground. Legally speaking that is.
