Kazaa - or KazaaLite - does it expose all my files?

hey, I'm trying to figure out which napster-replacement to get.
Kazaalite seems to get a good choice to avoid spies...

Are all of my files exposed? How does it decide what to let people download?

thanks

You choose a folder to share and then that folder, as well as any sub-folders, are shared.

Kazaa and Kazaa lite logs all the files on your computer and then checks to see if you have illegal material. They also monitor the stuff you download to see if you broke the law. Stay away!

Yes it does. The only thing that other people will be able to see are the folders that you have shared.

That's what they want you to think. What I am talking about is built into Kazaa itself.

Whoa - how about some details? or evidence.... or which line of code should I look at? (is the code available?....can I (or someone) rewrite it (again)?...)

I just got cable-internet and the first place I went was songspy.com, since I had heard that they were a legal napster. Too bad they are R.I.P.:(

How is that possible? Kazaa itself is just a protocol, is it not? It's akin to using Trillian to piggyback on to the AIM network...they would still need client support to carry out commands...kazaalite supposedly doesnt cooperate..

Any more thoughts on this?

Also... is there some thing in Kazaa that makes you share files... like it ranks you by how many files you share or something and then that effects how well the program works?

Ideally I would like to download files and not have anyone download files from me. :D

I think I saw some kinda of add-on hack for this but is it ok?
