SinnerWolf:

It suppose to be there. Read the bottom of the main page:

<< !!!! IMPORTANT !!!!
A dummy DLL file called "cd_clint.dll" is placed in the installation directory. This is a required file for KaZaA. Normally this file is a part of a spyware program called Cydoor. This dummy file however is completely harmless. So do not delete it when it is detected by a program such as Ad-aware.

<< Loving this version...but has no one else noticed ad-aware still picks up a file with this? (if you have the latest list installed at least). it's a .dll so it can't be deleted sadly, but still makes me arch an eyebrow in curiousity >>

misterj:

Are you using the 286KB host file or just the list from the download site? Win2K only has problem when the host file is too large.

People, don't get carried away using a huge Hosts file. You cannot block every conceivable ad site because new domains sprout up hourly. Get a good cookie/pop-up window blocker.

BTW, you can use the hosts file to speed up browsing sites you regularly visit. There are utilities that list the IP addresses of sites in your Favorites folder in the Hosts file. Do a search for "Hosts" at download.com.

One thing to note is that most spyware attaches itself it to Internet Exploder. If you use Netscape or another browser, you are probably safe. Spyware usually attaches itself to IE as Browser Helper Objects. You'll want to go into regedit and find all Browser Helper Objects and delete them.

Speaking of utilities ... I found a great post with too many utilities to possible list, so I will shamelessly link to it and hope you find something appealing.

Useful Utilities link on AT

That, and I wanted to make Senior status ... *snicker* :D

Kazaa used to rock. I had sustained DLs at 200k/s on my cable modem. Now I'm happy to get 20k/s and mostly get "more sources needed" as soon as the DL starts. Too bad there can't be a minimum amount of files in shared folder required to participate. Anyhoo, when I try to install Grokster off my freshly downloaded file I get the message, "a newer version of this installation is on the server. Please re-download this installation." Anybody else get this?

This is the simplest way kill the deal, if it was a deal.

I can imagine that KaZaA is going to force us to "upgrade" very soon.

I just installed the lite version dated march 21 and it installed and ran fine. Searches work, and downloading "seems" to work, but when it is all done downloading, I get "fail" every time.
Anyone know what may be causing this?

Well, I kept getting "fail" with build 5, so I downloaded build 3 and that works. I copied the download address for build 5 and just changed the 5 to a 3. Note that build 3 is about 1.5 meg, and build 5 is about 1.0 meg.

Ok, i love not waiting for the ads to load on pages after editing the host file...

HOWEVER, now I have a problem: a window keeps popping up when I access certain sites like t3chbargains.com, or dcemulation.com, asking me to log in to "ads1.ad-flow.com"...

Does anyone else have the same problem? This is counter productive because now I have to click cancel everytime on the log in window..

:(

When Morpheus went down I just downloaded and began using regular Morpheus. What is bad about spyware and why should I avoid it? Perhaps I'm missing something but I do not have aproblem with it based on what I do/don't know about it yet.

Thanks in advance

You probably have a server running on your computer's port 80. I actually changed the 127.0.0.1 to 0.0.0.0 .

I waited until I got to school to get the file but now the site is probably shut down due to the AT effect :)

Thanks in advance!

UPDATE: MIRROR FOUND HERE.

BTW, if you are worried about the registry entry, or how to remove it, Kazaalite leaves a copy of it in the install directory. You should be able to just open it up with notepad, or whatever, and manually remove it from the registry (or add it if you don't trust it).

i installed kazaa lite version 5 today......all i get is 128k bitrate files....do you have to run a separate reg file to "unlock" the bitrate limit???
i thought part of the whole great idea of kazaa lite was to remove this limit????
