KaZaa Lite - neutered version of KaZaa with installer (no spyware or ad-ware)

For those who don't want to hassle through removing the spyware from KaZaa or Grokster, here is a neutered version of KaZaa called KaZaaLite complete with installer - no spyware or ad-ware:

http://kazaalite.infinitehosting.net/download.htm

There are also a couple of other goodies on the site as well:

- a link to a neutered version of Audiogalaxy Satellite
- a fairly complete 'hosts' file complete with instructions.

I couldn't connect to the site. Must be AT effect.

I loaded the regular Kazaa after they Hacked Morpheus. I didn't load any of their spyware, but it still loaded three instances of Cydoor. I used Ad-Aware to get rid of it and then Kazaa wouldn't run. I guess I should become a true geek and learn about the REAL p2p applications out there. Morpheus was kind of like the AOL of p2p.

dreamer:

Yeah there is a dll called cd_clint.dll that ad-aware recognizes as cydoor. People have hacked up a dummy version that you stick in it's place to KaZaA will still be happy. The KaZaA Lite install automatically installs the file.

When you run ad-aware after the install, the dummy cydoor dll will still show up. You can go ahead and right click and add the file to your exclusion list so ad-aware will skip over it.

Does anyone know if all the versions of Kazaa has spyware? I hardly use kazaa but i have version 1.2 and wondering if that has spyware also. How can I find out? Also, if it has spyware and I uninstall it will the spyware go bye bye? Thanks for the heads up about this version. br. 😎

Extra Features compared to original KaZaA
- No Adware
- No Spyware
- No banners
- No bitratelimit for mp3 files
- No irritating websites loaded into KaZaA
- No crappy BDE Viewer
- No f*cking Bonzi Buddy

Thanks souja

Thanks a lot, but this almost sounds too good to be true. Is this a hack of Kazaa? Then I can understand why there are 2 registry files "KazaaNet.reg" and "KazaaNet2.reg" ... but ... I refused to enter them into my registry, just don't want to take chances...

Also, during installation, the pic showing a hardrive...isn't that from Windows or something? Or western digital?

Just wondering

Thanks for the help souja -

I used your tips and I have everything setup. I even did the Hosts file entry. This is definitely a hot deal.

The page cannot be displayed!
Can some one post the .zip in a binaries newsgroup or something? Looks like the downloads links are busted.
Thanks!

Seems to be working great! It pops up quicker and navigation between panes is also faster (no more loading banners and server-side images!). This is a great find!

[whine]Duuhhhh, this no really belong in hot deals. This belong in off topic[/whine]

Someone's going to post that, so I thought I'd make fun of them ahead of time 🙂

Anyway, thanks for the link!
