if i remember correctly IRC used to suck balls. everytime i went to different channels i'd have to wait several minutes to hours for queues...

edit: i stand corrected, i never knew that there were actualy search engines for IRC...i always just logged on using mIRC and manually found stuff...

Where are search engines? Does anyone have an extremely dumbed down tutorial for me because no matter how hard I try I can't get it to work. I've used Bit Torrent and love it (esp for video), but for music unless it is a popular band it is hard to find it. Waste was fun, but the transfers were extremely slow (this what makes BT so great). For the love of God I've tried using mIRC, but I just can't figure it out. I can get into channels and even get files into queue, but it never does transfer and I can't find out how to tell what files I have in queue. I  programs like Kazaa and BT for their simplicity.

I can't believe half-way intelligent people still use kazaa. Kazaa is a n00b-playground loaded with ad/spyware not to mention you are extremely vulnerable to viruses and now the lovely human RIAA.

Kazaa is easy to use. It actually has a search feature. Very easily pull an obscure song in 15-20 seconds. Whereas with most newsgroups, relay chat, whatever, there needs to be a lot of searching to find stuff.

For music I actually use Blubster (Search feature, lots of songs, fast transfers, no ad/spyware), and there are other alternatives like winmx (never used it), direct connect, etc.

IRC, you always have packetnews and mydownloader. newsgroups have newsbin and search function built into the client. works fine and i get better quality things and faster transfer than kazaa and no worries about the RIAA.

all you have to do is know the right people. you don't even have to waste time searching everywhere for stuff.
