Kazaa comments anyone?

According to Web analysis firm Nielsen/NetRatings, weekly usage of the Kazaa software in the United States plummeted from a high of 7 million people in early June to just 3.2 million people in late October.

The article describes that 200 targets, resulting in 84 lawsuits is the driving force.

Kazaa has become trendy-ably mainstream. I'm sure this is scaring off some of the law-abiding mainstreamers. But for those of us whom know better, we know that inhibiting the ad-ware in newest kazaa variants, inhibits the ability to use it.

So we have to consent to be monitored? I think not. I think this is why 2.5million people download the software every week, but only 3.2million are active users. Only the morons who don't know that they agreed to be monitored (because they didnt read the new agreement, but hit the 'i agree' button, and/or don't use spyware removal tools) are still using it.

its all the casual users that are afraid of the RIAA but from what ive been told they only look for people sharing large amounts of songs like 1000+ and since i dont share any files, im gonna keep browsing for my warez, pr0n, and movies as long as i want

my process for getting music off kazaa:

1. download
2. find out it's fake
3. download another version
4. find out it's fake
5. download every version listed
6. run through all and find they are all fake aside from the 2 that cut out halfway through the song cause idiots don't know how to complete a download.
7. get fed up and go back to bittorrent.

1. Rip the CD I bought.
2. If I don't have the CD, borrow one from a friend.
3. If friends don't have it...check with local library 😉

What about unreleased hard to find music?
I would bet my left nut(driver) that you couldnt find expendables,pepper, Can't Hang, on any of those two mentioned....


I dont use kazaa for downloading music i can buy, I use it to download music i cant buy.

Just buy the song from itunes, or buy the used CD. My only complaint is that itunes' library isn't as big as I want.

Thats pretty much how it goes for me too. Except instead of bittorrent i usually just whine to the husband to find it for me cause im done looking.

 

Hmm, I keep hearing about this bittorrent, how is it for music?

You can't deny the RIAA is succeeding in a way. Kazaa is going the way of Napster... even though the same rules don't necessarily apply.

I don't think the RIAA is setting out to stop pirating... any level of deterrence would be a success at this point.

Look at China and pirating. It's running rampant. Do you have any doubt we'll get that way if it weren't for enforcement / deterrence to some degree ?

I'm not siding with anyone... just making observations.

How could they possibly tell that you are using Kazaa lite rather than the real Kazaa unless they can see your hard drive's contents?

your ISP can still log your activity whether you use kazaa or kazaa lite...neither one is worth the risk in my opinion.

Thats why the music I share is legal. You guys/gals might be surprised that alot of underground bands want to share their music......i.e. have their music for download off their site....
