I never really liked him anyway. Getting Kavanaugh confirmed gets me that seat for 20-30 years. Once confirmed he becomes essentially untouchable. Don't think so? Look at how well impeaching Clarence Thomas has gone. For an establishment Republican there is essentially no downside to confirming him even if he's polling at 0%.

That's been my position with this case. However since Ford's story came out Kavanaugh's behavior has been one of guilt. Ford's has been one of innocence. We may never know exactly what happened so this has turned into a case of credibility. Ford has far more then Kavanaugh.

Can a sitting scotus justice be indicted, tried, convicted? Well if you ask Kav, he'll say he's above the law.

Republicans always play the long game, that's why they control as much of the local, state, and federal government they do at this point.

So long as the Constitution says the Supreme Court is the highest court in the country the credibility of any individual member or even the members collectively is irrelevant in that calculus. If you get the verdicts you want and they cannot be overturned you have won.
