If I’ve already gone through several rounds of interviews and a background check, and the employer is about to make me an offer, I don’t need to do anything if someone comes out of nowhere and accuses me of a crime. My future employer has to decide if they want to consider these allegations. They may question me on them, but that’s about it.

It is in Kavanaugh’s best interest to cooperate with the next round of interviews.

If there is no way to disprove the allegations, and they decide you aren't worth the potential liability, then no job for you. There are hundreds of people at least as qualified as you without the potential baggage.

That’s why I don’t get them wasting more time on this guy. There are a dozen or more other people who are just as conservative without this and they have plenty of time to confirm them before the next term. If you waste several more weeks on this and then withdraw him, maybe not.

This has really come down to the swing vote Senators and political cover. Collins has indicated the order of things should be testimony and then to call in the FBI if needed. There’s been some interesting articles today as well on the Democrat Senators facing reelection in red states.

In this case, the determination of risk is the midterms.

Not going to testify until after an official FBI investigation? That changes the dynamic as this is now a trap for them. Damned if they do and damned if they don't. I don't think they are going to stick their necks out unless there is compelling evidence to become involve in a political dispute.

So the accuser isn't going to testify, she looks bad now as her changing her mind and insisting something that isn't likely to happen. Well, that's a fork in her IMO. Whether her involvement prevents Kavanaugh from getting in remains to be seen but this is even more a cluster.

What needs to happen are rules that cannot be waved, such as a minimum time to evaluate candidates and deadlines for evidence and documentation as well as the kinds of materials that must be provided.

Kavanaugh can't say the party never happened because he was there, trying to rape a 15 year old girl. As a slime ball torture lawyer, he knows all too well what could happen if he makes provably false statements.
