I would be willing to consider possibly giving him a pass regarding SCOTUS regarding ONLY this issue, if he had come out with an apology when the story broke with a sincere declaration that he was a hormone laden idiot in his teenage years.

Really, man? That's not something he can just apologize for. That's disqualifying.

The people who hoped or theorized that maybe she would not appear credible seem to have made an incredible error.

I mean, I had some raging hormones as a teenager. Pretty sure I never shoved a woman into a bedroom, locked the door behind her, and pinned her down while I tried to take her clothes off. Not completely sure though, I'll have to check my calendar.

Edit: Oh yeah, and covered her mouth when she tried to scream.

What does it cost you to give these women the benefit of the doubt?

Do you doubt the people coming forward against priests with this same skepticism?
No, because there has been ample prosecuted and documented evidence of systemic abuse in the church along with cover ups that trace back to the Vatican. There are patterns of behavior from credible accusers.

You’ll notice I’ve not questioned Dr. Ford’s account and felt it was important for her to testify. The Ramirez claim is questionable. The Avenatti client is irresponsible, which is why the Democrats have not exactly embraced him.

The limited time format Grassley has chosen actually looks to work against the prosecutor they brought in.

But if we don't give Supreme Court appointments to people who clamp their hands over their victims' mouths to choke off their screams for help then where will it end? Will any man be safe?

Yeah this format is horrible. Oddly enough against the GOP plan in the first exchange.

One of the comments ever present in this thread is that Kavanaugh wasn't qualified. It's bullshit of course, which I kindly pointed out with reference to Kagan.

You're using some made-up bullshit to "de-qualify" Kagan. There is no qualification that requires them to be a judge, which is the only thing you cited.

So do you agree that Rhenquist was also unqualified? Obviously you do, because you just argued that case.

Here's what makes a SCOTUS nominee qualified: Senate approval.

I don't think there's any question about whether Ford was attacked. I think Kavanaugh's defense rests on whether Kavanaugh/Judge were even there, or if it possibly could have been someone else at this gathering who assaulted her.

I'm just gonna say it--not having Judge present to provide testimony under oath looks really, really bad for Kavanaugh. At a bare minimum, GOP should have allowed Judge's lawyer to testify as to why he ran, his alcoholism and sobriety, his fear, and maybe read a sworn statement from Judge.

There is of course the incredibly obvious explanation for why Judge has presented none of those things and Republicans have not requested them.

My judgement that this hearing was a terrible idea for the GOP is exponentially increasing in confidence as I hear her statement.

Even having their token female tear into her as she barely keeps from crying is pretty effing bad optics.

So far the questioning isn't particularly impactful on any front. Her compelling opening statement will be the most widely consumed part and thus shape perceptions.
