hello all.

upon installing Kaspersky Anti-Virus Personal Pro 5.0, my system was slowed down to a crawl and would hang, i have since deleted it. a similar problem occured when i installed Panda Titanium; my system slowed down and crashed.

the forum sentiment seems to be that both are top notch AVs, and i would like to be able to use them without such a problem occuring. any help on how to resolve this problem would be appreciated.

thanks.

i have since deleted it.

I presume you uninstalled both the correct way via add/remove program icon, anyway first thing I would do once I`m sure they are both removed is try Panda online scan to see if you have any viruses on your PC that might be effecting installation/stability,Panda online ActiveScan link.

You could also try one of the excellent "trial" Bitdefender products (bitdefender 8 standard is a good choice for AV only),they also have a free online AV scanner as well.

Remember you should not have two different AV software programs running at the same time, they can cause a conflict ,especially in realtime scan mode, btw unnamed, welcome to the AT forums.

You may want to try out a AV that doies not take up so much RAM. AVG takes up the least amount of RAM. What exactly are your specs though? My moms PC runs Kaspersky and notices no slow down. That may be because her PC is runnign Windows XP and tweaks real well. IT has barely any services running. SO you may want to tweak windows a bit. Check out

All those guides should help. Note that many of the tweaks will be repeated and I do not suggest doing every tweak. Especially the registry tweaks.

You may also want to check out the sticky that has a malware removal guide. It also has a performance guide which may help a little.

Mem: thanks for the recommendations. i have not run Kaspersky or Panda together or in conjunction with another raeltime AV.

KoolDrew: i doubt the problem is due to poor specs. currently i am using NAV 2005 which is notorious for its RAM hog, and my PC runs okay. i do a full system scan, and run ad-aware and spybot weekly and i have a firewall up, so i don't think the problem is attributed to malware. thanks for the references.

Have you tried a format of the system and a clean install of either one?
