the most egregious example i've seen recently is wanescotting's response in the thread about the teens who ran over the black guy in their truck. he was subsequently banned for his comment.
Yikes. Hopefully it wasn't similar to mr garrison's "i love you drag" thing.

ATOT is just a positive thinking place. Guys like the OP see nothing but bad news, but ATOT sees only good news. People die, that's good. People live, that's good too.

I think it's two issues. One, a lot of posters here are young and haven't had time to have tragedy come close to them. And two, making fun of something where others don't see the humor is one of the tenets of good humor. Doing so over something tragic can elicit the biggest laughs, but doing so is like playing with fire and requires a great deal of knowledge of where that line is that you don't want to cross, add in the anonymity of the internet and this is a recipe for disaster. I don't think a lot of posters here have read the warning that says don't try this at home.

Even a very experienced comedian can fail e.g. Gilbert Gottfried. The line moves depending on the tragedy, and its scope. Sometimes even a long time line does not suffice to make the joke acceptable to most.

Still a matter of opinion though. I, and others I'm sure, found what Gilbert was saying about the earthquake/tsunami funny.

Comedy = tragedy + time. Maybe it has not been enough time for you to feel ok with it, but everyone has a different threshold and it depends on the tragedy. If I end up dead and in an article posted here, I hope beyond hope there are some excellent one-liners dished out at my expense. :awe:

I think I found my new toast: May the cause of your death be both memorable and hilarious. I'll have to try it at the family reunion this weekend.

Not everyone can feel empathy for faceless strangers they hear about.
To put it bluntly; they just don't care.

No such thing as karma, only chaos. The earth drinks the blood of the just and the unjust alike. No rhyme or reason, only luck.

Life's a joke; yuck it up.

In such an event, consider it done! :ninja:

I think this will play better, if most are liquored up first. But then again, I don't know your clan.

I've seen worse posted here. I don't understand why he got perma banned for that when people have gotten away with worse. I'm sure he meant it as a joke.

They were probably about to give up on the macabre humor, but now that the OP has provided the desired response we'll never be rid of it.

just skip over the nonsense sagalore. don't take it seriously as most of those type of posts are just envelope pushing because they can't do it in real life.

This thread could use a random joke.

So this woman has a baby, it's a typical struggle, hard time, pain etc... but it finally comes out. So the doctor takes it away for a bit. The mother is eager to see her new baby. As the doctor walks back in, he trips into an indentation on the floor at the door way, the baby is launched 15 feet and lands on the other side of the room head first right into the corner. The mother is horrified. The doctor says "Don't worry about it, it was already dead anyway".
