Karma has come to bite me back :(

Yesterday I agreed to see some friend's friend's Windows XP computer that wasn't seeing wireless networks after they replaced their router.

I don't normally do this because all the hassle involved but I figured it was just that they were trying to use Window's wireless tool to try to connect while the vendor's was enabled. I was right and charged them $40 for about 50 seconds of work (these people are loaded), reddited for a while so it would look like I was doing some hardcore configurations and then went home.

Sure enough, they just called me because their computer freezes while booting up and obviously it looks like it's because of the things I did to it 😡

And now I get to be their tech support just for breaking my own rules, trying to make a quick buck.

Damn me.

i feel your pain OP, but technically karma didn't bite you back. you're actually spreading positive karma by helping out. for karma to work properly, good things would have to happen to you.

i'll also need to see pics of friend's friend to guage how much sympathy i have for your situation. pics of friend will also benefit both of us.

Don't have...she's a MILF though, blonde, in her 40s, boob job, dance instructor, huge cougar vibe.

Then it should have been "On the house." Just like she should have been "On the house."

That way you'd be right for sabotaging the computer and coming back to provide services again...

This is exactly why I don't help co-workers. Another big no, no is selling an old computer to co-workers. You become their lifetime tech support.

My wife brought one of her co workers laptop home for me to mess with. I told her that she dun goofed. Sure enough 2 days later she says said co worker now wants this and this done.

I refuse to work on anyones computer but the ones in my house. My Sister-In-Law called my wife yesterday because my Mom-In-Law's computer is hosed. I talked to her a little last night on the phone and it sounds like she has either malware or a virus. Computer won't see internet, boots slowly, has errors, can't install or uninstall software and the firewall and anti-virus aren't working.

I told her to call someone to come in and fix it. Thank god I live 80+ miles away.

I do volunteer work in nursing homes occasionally and I have to be careful. I usually provide instruction on pcs that are owned by the facilities and are maintained by their IT staff. Sometimes a resident will have a laptop of their own and they ask if I can take a look because it has a problem. This has to be refused in a firm manner because these oldsters think if you help them once that they own you forever.

Sounds to me like you shouldn't have been dicking around on reddit and instead should have been installing software to broadcast live images from their webcam to ATOT. :colbert:

TeamViewer FTW!

I've never had too much trouble, and I enjoy the work. I like the troubleshooting process. My mother is kind of irritating to deal with though. She always complains about her email being "broken". Somehow she manages to turn off the main menu, and I haven't figured out how she does it yet :^D That's ok. LogMeIn to the rescue :^D

Wait till you find out she is actually a computer genius and just wants you to come over and fuck your brains out so you get involved in a huge love triangle to which you end up dead thus creating a movie deal to which Hollywood ends up making all the money.

I usually try to fix other's computers as I love doing that. I also do some stuff that I do not tell people, like optimizing, cutting processes down, uninstalling crap ware. This has not failed me yet.

I am not a greedy bastard. :awe:
