This music is definitely not my preferred genre. I'd consider myself rather "rock" and anachronistic at that: punk, math rock, hardcore, jazz etc.

There is, however, no denying this is a very good, smartly written and produced album. My g-friend plays it sometimes and really turned me on to it.

What kills me is not that people don't like rap music. Hey, people have different tastes. What kills me is the underlying -- well, I'm not going to say it, but you all see it -- that people try to use to explain how people like Kanye West aren't talented.

Like or dislike his music, this man is easily as talented as anyone else out there making music right now. Any kind of music.

And $5 is a great price for a great album. Although I'm weird; I still buy CDs.

i also recommend not advocating piracy unless you want to get voted off the island.

the album itself is hardly representative of his best work, but for $5 it's a steal.

kanye does make the oh-so-short list of 'good' rappers, and can be counted amongst the select few living rap artists (talib/common/nas/andre) that understand their genre, develop a unique form/flow/vibe, and excel with their artistry and even their musicality. if you dislike him solely for the reason that his music is constantly on the billboard charts and receives way too much airplay, then that's a personal issue.

lil wayne (crackhead) and souljaboy (talentless, obnoxious crackhead) should strangle themselves with their headphone cords.

it'll take you another 1300 good posts to clear the air of the stupidity of just this one. in one sentence you managed to solidify a reputation as an idiot, a hater, and a pirate. 'grats.

If you're talking about more mainstream rappers, then sure, Kanye is fairly high up there.

As far as Lil' Wayne, he actually is decent lyrically at times, but he sounds annoying as hell.

Real lyrical talent resides under the pop music radar. Check out Murs, Blueprint, Immortal Technique, Jedi Mind Tricks, etc. to get a better appreciation for talented lyricists.

i surrender, i'm beat up... but my rep as an idiot certainly predates this...

i never advocated pirating before, and don't participate in it myself, but got caught up in the moment - i think it's crime to give this guy any money...

as for hater? i guess you are right... i hate this guy's music, and a large part of the genre in general... i don't believe in his message, and do believe that it's worse than generic rock and roll debauchery when pumped into kids' heads... so i get a little silly about it...

So i'm curious....what IS his message, according to you?

Granted, i can't even knock the hate for general, "mainstream" hip-pop that gets put on the radio nowadays, but its a shame when it has the side effect of people generalizing the entire genre. It's like if i just assumed that rock and metal were all violent, mosh-pit, headbanging thrashing noise because i don't follow the genre. I happen to be open-minded enough to realize that that isn't the case, but obviously that's not something that applies to everyone equally.

Back on topic though, i can't say kanye's for everyone--most people know about his actions outside of the recording studio, if nothing else--but what i can say is that you can take his prima donna actions however you like, but you gotta respect the fact that the man genuinely believes in making the best music that he possibly can. Anybody that got an opportunity to see his Glow in The Dark Tour earlier this year can probably attest to that fact. The other posters' comments on other noteworthy artists is spot-on as well.

Lil Wayne's lyrical ability is crap, it has improved in his latest album but it still doesn't hold a candle to a few other mainstream/somewhat mainstream rappers; Jay-Z, Clipse, Black Thought (from the Roots, one of the most slept on artists of our day - Listen to the X-Ecutioner's song "Live from the P.J.'s" and the last verse he absoloutely tears that shit up) and Kanye does have some great lyrical talent if you break down some of his verses you can see the intelligence behind it.

I haven't seen him live, but apparently he has a female computer voice in the background of some songs that he calls Jane. Seems like he or someone involved in the tour is a fan of the Enderverse (too much of a coincidence IMO).

Anyway, I liked him before but like him even more because of this, even though I realize it's totally irrational to change my opinion of his music because of something like this.

EDIT: I think the deal is dead, showing $8 for me. Still cheaper than the CD though.
