Kansas... a backwards state?

gopunk

Lifer
basically what happened is that there is a human sexuality course, some senator found out about it, and is now hellbent on getting that class removed, because he is "offended" by the material.

personally, i think it's recockulous that they base whether or not the university gets 3 million on ONE course.

not to mention, it's not like they are forcing students to take this course. it's not required.

Kansas is the only state I've been in where the graffiti on freeway overpasses says "I love jesus" and "John 3:16".

Also, I never want to be in Kansas again, and not just because of the graffiti.

You'll see that kinda stuff now and then in rural GA as well.

The legislators are fighting the wrong battle here.

The real question, though, is why this course belongs in an institution of "higher learning". It's not a legitimate academic course (though something being a legitimate academic course seems to have ceased being important if the course makes the university appear "sensitive" or "progressive"). I don't agree that funding should be withdrawn, but I think that the University needs to take a good long look at this useless course.

You have absolutely no idea what you are talking about. Why isn't it an academic course? You are obviously talking about of your ass and actually have no idea what you are talking about.

while i have to think that the legislature determining classroom content is a bad thing i'm also appalled at the imperialist superiority displayed by the bicoastal elite for the midwest, mountains, and the south.

eh? i didn't think kansas was backwards until i read this story... before then... well i didn't think about kansas at all 😛

what i remember of kansas is that it's flat & i had to pay $1 to join a "private club" to buy & drink alcohol.

Seriously. Kansas is just a wasteland between the much superior states of Colorado and Missouri.

It's a sad state of affairs when MO is a "superior" state to your own. 😛

I think Kansas was also the state that mades some ripples a year or so ago when they tried (don't remember if they succeeded or not) to prevent the teaching of evolution in high school.

Sounds like a pretty messed up class

She told colleagues that during the class Dailey displayed pictures of the genitalia of girls at ages 5 and 10, told female students to explore their own genitals as homework, and implied that a woman leaving for the restroom was going to masturbate.

and the classic statement that is found on all child porn and warez servers

"These are educational films. They are made by educational organizations and used as part of the educational process," Dailey said.

I don't agree that the funding should be taken away from the whole school though over this one class.

well, keep in mind, that is just what you hear one person saying. if you read the article in my student newspaper, the prof that does the human sexuality class here videotapes her lectures JUST for that purpose, because she has been grossly misrepresented in the past. i wouldn't be suprised at all if those comments were taken out of context or never even spoken at all.

it is not our legislator's job's to legislate morality.
it never has been, it never should be either.
kansas isnt that bad, lawrence is a really cool city, aside from that, there really isnt much there.
id rather live in kansas than missoura anyday.
