I know polls are nonsense, but the election probably will be close. And RFK will end up being the deciding factor. 5% even in polls shows that a lot of people hate both candidates.

I recently saw a FL poll that shows RFK pulling roughly equally from both. He pulled 2 point something points from each when added to the race.

Florida Atlantic University PolCom Lab/Mainstreet Research did multiple polls some with RFK and some just Trump against Harris. The results show RFK pulling equally from both.

I’m with Indus on this. I believe the overwhelming majority of RFK voters are Trump voters who are too ashamed to admit it.

OK, but multiple polls from multiple states by different pollsters show the same result: RFK pulls roughly an equal amount of voters from Trump and Harris.
That's better than pulling all from Harris, at least.

RFK getting a cabinet position in a Harris administration might help garner some votes from independents and help her win imho. It certainly won't hurt or cause voters to swing to Trump because of it, again imho.

I think we can say that he was encouraged to run to be a spoiler to the democratic side like Nader in 2000 or Jill Stein in 2016.
I think we can say from your data that’s failed. If he’s pulling equally from the couple of % that won’t vote for their parties candidate then he’s not acting as a spoiler.
That’s good assuming it continues through the election because it was a waste of time and resources by forces that want to subvert democracy.

I could have believed that RFK would pull from both sides (or very close to it) if it were still a repeat of '20 with Biden v. Trump. The double haters had somewhere to go and the disillusioned "liberals" might be conned into the name recognition a bit. Trump curious folks from the anti-vaxx nutjob wing would go as well.
But with it being Harris??? Nah, not really buying it that much. The double haters have nothing to gain now, assuming that was their real reason to be anit-Biden. The Harris vibe is much closer to the JFK/Clinton/Obama one than anything RFK could ever dream of being, so the name recognition thing is greatly minimized. The Trump anti-vaxx coalition is still in play though. I'd expect a much larger majority of RFK voters to be pulled from likely/lean Trump voters than Harris. Entirely different demographics.

Many independents are for RFK. I'm not saying she would accept him for a cabinet position, but if it ever happened it is what I think would happen. I would not expect her to lose votes. Remember, not everyone is as wise as Anandtech posters
Explain to me why you'd think she would lose votes, or that he would not help. Anyone for Harris right now I doubt would swing to Trump if she gave RFK some meaningless position., same as any Trump voters would not be swayed by it.
