I liked her better when she was providing no policy guidance.

1) Creating a new federal government bureaucracy, to solve an almost non-existent problem - which is already covered in most (37) states by existing price gouging laws for the very rare occurrence.

2) Adding new unfunded federal stimulus handout programs, including one time cash payments or equivalent refundable tax credits for first time homebuyers and newborns. With other changes, a further $2 trillion in deficit spending (over a decade).

So far, she's batting 0 for 2 on big new policy proposals, and that's being generous in scoring (I'd actually rate the first one as a total negative, not even a zero. And the second would be potentially ok - if the budget was remotely close to under control, and if the economy needed a large stimulus boost - neither of which is remotely applicable.)

Although continuing the Biden passed plan to negotiate and reduce drug prices for Medicare was a big and ongoing win, and worth expanding on.
I'd rather we did more trust busting and break up conglomerates. A bulk of the price gouging were seeing is due to lack of competition. Need more firms, let them compete for.customers and employees

Home builders will not build so much that they depress their own prices. Spec building around here is way down, even in currently approved and developing neighbors.

Still a lot of multifamily, all rentals though. But I've read multifamily housing starts are set to go down a lot next year, because developers are worried about demand.

This is no different than Ford not building so many cars that prices drop like a rock.
But that's where cutting the red tape comes in: they (or new entrants) can build at lower price points because those projects will pencil out. It's a win for the would-be buyers. And in the places people want to live (ie, major US cities), there is plenty of pent-up demand for more housing, so I don't think most builders really need to worry about building too much.

I agree with you on cutting a lot of the restrictions. But developers have pulled back development on their own accord many times in the past.

Retired senator Richard Burr says that just because he voted to convict Trump and ban him from ever holding office again doesn’t mean he’s not going to vote for him.

"I don’t have a hard time squaring with it because I firmly understood why I voted for impeachment. And l like I said, that’s not a disqualifier as to whether you can serve. It’s a bad choice I thought a president made one time.”

He added that his vote to convict Trump was not a vote to disqualify him from office.

Sooooo! .... He voted for conviction and acts like he didn't know that would automatically disqualify Trump from holding the office again. Ummm, No!, that is exactly what it is! But (I assume) Richard Burr knows that, and he knows that he's lying, but he doesn't care. Congrats! ...You defied nature by living as long as you have without a spine. Well done!

That's moronic. I use 'white guy' terminology all the time, specifically for food, because it's an important delineation between European cuisine and non-European cuisine, and there's no other word for it.

'not white people spicy' is basically macro'd into my online orders from local ethnic restaurants at this point.

Who the hell cares what Fox News says. They'd come out saying how Jesus is a ****y for turning the other cheek if he said he was voting Democrat.

Anyone who watches that dreck is beyond reaching anyway.

After reading an article about "Swifties4Kamala"--which is an unofficial group apparently--I did wonder if Taylor Swift will endorse Harris, and if so when. It seems beyond silly that the opinion of one celebrity would matter, but...the Swifties are a pretty mighty force apparently :) Even if she just started reminding people to "get out to vote" the Magas would have conniptions because they know very well who most of her audience would vote for. It would be hilarious if she performed at the DNC, hey it was mentioned that her tour apparently has a gap around that time :D And hey, Trump had Hulk Hogan, and he's certainly encouraged to bring out his own A-listers like Kevin Sorbo, Rob Schneider, Kid Rock, Ted Nugent and Jon Voight. Oh, and Kanye LOL! And is R. Kelly actually locked up yet? That could be the all-felon rally!

This would be a dream scenario. I mean it is technically possible, Beyonce is not touring and Swift ends her European leg this year on Tuesday the 20th in London. She could easily be at the convention. I will dream and wish but don't expect it.

Remind people the last Trump tax cut did nothing but increase the deficit by 50% before the pandemic. It exacerbated the income gap. It did nothing to spur economic growth.

As far as the largest tax hike in history bet if you ran the numbers based on current GDP I’m confident we can say they are lying

They were lying and trolling with that tax "reform" in plain sight. The GOP knows full well that rural rubes can easily be fooled into voting against their best interests--just put out lots of fear-inducing shit about The Border (tm), and trans people and commies and so on. Their base is also largely uneducated and has a five word attention span for anything economic, so they were safe to pull it off. "Inflation bad! Tariffs to punish Chy-na!" "Socialism taking your money!" "Illegals rich from welfare!" All short, all devoid of context like Jesus intended.

Paul Ryan coming out with a straight face talking about a woman saving the price of her Netflix bill every month (when it was $10). And even that wasn't permanent. Then you look at the worth of all the congress critters who voted for it and do the math on how much they'd sudden be raking in. They literally drove a convoy of brinks trucks up to the bank with our tax money and loaded it up.

And all for the low, low price of gazillions (to the debt, so why worry now?) for people in the then-future.

^^^ It's said to be one of the backup dancers who just happened to be in a shadow.
That's all conservative fear ever is, jumping at shadows. The psychological explanation is that it is projection of childhood trauma that involved being punished physically and psychologically humiliated via put downs that likened us to filth of one kind or another. Inwardly the condition is one of disgust. If you were made to feel you stink in some manner you will live your life in the fear someone will smell who you really are. Industries exist to sell remedies for this. And who could really be worthless if your goal is to make America great again.

The Trump tax cuts are due to expire next year.

Let them expire for corporations

Let them expire for all people making >400K to keep in line with the Biden original promise
The reduced corporate tax rates are permanent, so aren't affected by the 2025 expiration. Obviously that was by design. In fact, I don't believe the middle class tax cuts were even part of the original "reform" as conceived by the GOP. They were bolted on at some point to ensure it would be passed by a split Congress. And to game the system, many provisions had to be sunset to satisfy the Byrd rule.

A preannouncement of Swift would make that night of the DNC a mega-hit! Yeah, let's dream...

I don't know what it's like in other parts of the country with big Hispanic populations, but down here in South Florida to many male Hispanic voters like some things about Trump. But, from personal experience as a white person interacting with them, I can tell you that a little self-deprecating “well, shucks, as a white person” humor is an excellent strategy to gain their trust. Most of them don’t trust “colorblind” people, or people who don't recognize their own privilege. Acknowledging “white” as a cultural variant, not the norm, is super powerful with them. I have made a Tim Walz type “white people spicey” joke or “white people” jokes about innocuous things with them. And it works.

So, there are some of your votes. Hispanic men who vaguely admire Trump’s wealth or position on abortion, but don’t identify personally with him or either candidate. Now Walz is a funny guy who gets it. That’s important. People who try to be careful when they talk about race end up sounding really fake.

The many Hispanics I have made friends with or just acquaintances I've interacted with, know I'm a northeastern expat from PA who doesn't identify with ANYTHING about Trump, or his MAGA branded Republican party. They have on multiple occasions asked me "You get it, but why are most Democrats humorless scolds on race issues,” is a common line of attack against Dems. down here. Walz making “white guy” jokes helps disarm that. Also, it tempts Republicans to make ill-advised, “If Walz can say ‘white guy tacos,’ how come I can’t use the s- word or the n-word?” arguments, which will only hurt them with people of color and independents.

This is a rally in Omaha Nebraska, for just a veep. This is beautiful (love the coach signs)

also he had a chant of USA going at this event, by saying this is all about loving our country. We are taking back what patriotism means, right now.

It's all about the crowd, the context and the timing. I'm made similar comments intending to be joking and it went bad. Real bad.

When there's nothing, Fox News will either turn a statement that should be nothing into something. Or just completely make up shit.

I famously make what all the Mexican's I know call Tacos El Guero. Which basically translates to white people tacos. And they're not insulting me, they love them, but are acknowledging that the tacos aren't traditional and you won't find ones like these in Mexico. I know almost nothing about Walz, but from the clips I've watched, he's extremely caucasian. Walz was making a funny due to the stereotype that white people don't like spicy food, and a lot don't even use much seasoning. While my tacos aren't the same as his, I understand what he was saying. It's hilarious Fox News turned this nothingburger into a headline story.

Or I guess in this case it should be referred to as a nothingtaco.
