Can someone please clarify the difference between these 2 drivers and why i would install one over the other or just install bothe? I have an idea about the Promise......

Actually there should be 3 drivers.

VIA = Drivers for VIA SATA controller
(SATA 1 + 2)

Promise "RAID" = Drivers for Promise controller for RAID & possibly JBOD mode
(Primary + Secondary SATA & Primary RAID PATA)

Promise "ATA" = Drivers for Promise controller for ATA mode aka stand-alone drive configuration
(Primary + Secondary SATA & Primary RAID PATA)
