So ive got this msi K8N Neo Platinum here and everything powers up and works, I goto install winXP, use the disk for the sata drivers, i format the drive and make my partitions which all works just fine, then i reboot the system to go into the actual windows xp install process and i get the "error loading operating system" error. Anyone have any idea what the problem might be?

Im using the latest msi bios and my setup along with the board is...

a64 3400
Samsung SP1213C - 120gig sata
1gig corsair xms 3200c2pt

Another note, the system sees the hard drive at boot up

From the MSI website

Installing Windows 200/XP on a single S-ATA Hard Drive

? Right after booting off of the Windows cd, you need to push the F6 key when prompted (Fig-a)
? Next when prompted (Fig-b) install the correct driver from the floppy disk provided with the motherboard, press the S key to specify the driver, and select the correct driver depending on which controller you are using, then press enter key to continue.
? After this Windows 2000/XP will continue the installation, and will detect the S-ATA hard drive to be installed onto.

Hope that helps.

Well, the board is supposed to be able to do it without the floppy... and I know people here have had success with it.

Honestly, I don't know if it will help at all, but switch the plugs the drives are plugged into (if you have them on 1 and 2, swap the connectors). I had to load XP using the floppy and when I got done with copying files, my machine would show 2 choices of XP to boot into for some reason (never did this on my K8T Neo). Had to use the bottom one and then edit how windows boots off the array (which isn't easy for novice users).

I personally have my drives on SATA3 & 4 and I haven't had any major issues with the board since.
