I will soon be upgrading from my old nforce2 system and had a question on which motherboard to go with. I am really really considering solteks K8T890 board, however I have read that this chipset has MAJOR issues with USB 2.0. Has anyone had any experience with this or knows what the deal is?

Another question about this chipset, how new is it compared to the nforce4 ultra, and besides support for SATA 2 are there any major differences? And is SATA2 even noticeable at this point? I will not be using RAID, but could possibly eventually I guess. I want 1 SATA HDD.

Anyone in offense/defense with this board or chipset? I have read it is fast and stable and that is what I'm looking for. Also, what do you see this chipset from VIA's lifeline being, as well as future support and updates? Thanks alot

The southbridge is still the same VIA 8237 we've had for well over a year now, I don't see why there should suddenly be "issues".

As for the yet unavailable 8251, well, nobody outside VIA knows.

K8 chipsets generally tend to last a lot longer than chipsets in the P4 or K7 arena, simply because K8 chipsets need not be updated every time the RAM technology or the CPU evolves.

Even if VIA chipset are OK, nvidia are, IMHO, better for overall feature and performance. Even if you dont need them now, they often had more USB2.0 ports, ans SATA connectors. SATA2 is not yet usefull, and I sincerly dont know when it will be mainstream.. And SATA connectors, being in the chipset doesnt need special drivers to install windows, so it is less confusing for first time builder. From past and present experience with nforce3 aand 4 chipsets and RAID, I did not get a single problems with it. And it is fast too.

In this period of time, nvidia has an edge over VIA in chipsets. while the first nforce3 150 was loosing to VIA back in time, nvidia did improve and add features to their chipset and got that + that make them the choice for today's A64 built
