K7V and no USB please help

I want to get DSl but I need my USB ports to work. I can't get any device to work in them. The drivers for them don't work and my W98SE cd says that it can't find any files. I heard about VIS/USB problems abd got an update but it didn't help. Any suggestions? Asus K7V, slot A T-bird 700mhz, V5500AGP,192MB Mushkin CAS 2 ram, 20 GB WD HDD. Thanks in advance.

Have you checked your Bios to make sure they are turned on?
