I can't seem to figure out what the fastest CPU I can put in this board is. It has the VIA VT8366A chipset which I think support 266MHz FSB, but I'm not certain. Does anybody know? My 800MHz Athlon just died and I want to replace it. Will this board support a 1.33Ghz Athlon?

Thanks.

The Pro2 & Pro2a use the Via KT133 chipset. The Pro2a offers ata100 support.

MSI's website is down, but it looks like the tbird 1.2~1.4 might be the fastest cpu that you can drop in there.

I was merely explaining the main difference between the Pro2 & the Pro2a, which is ata100 support.

The KT133 chipset supports ata100 natively, and even when you o/c they tend to flake out around ~115MHz. I have used dozens of the Pro2a in system builds, and for the most part they were a solid board back in the day.

Well, it depends. If he really means K7T Pro2-A, then no - he can only run the FSB at 100 MHz, meaning he's limited in what he can use. My friend has this board and I could've sworn that a 1.2 GHz chip was the limit (12x multiplier tops), but, MSI's site is confusing. They claim a 1.3 GHz Duron won't work in it (13x100), but that 1.3 and 1.4 GHz T-birds (13x100 & 14x100) WILL. Zuh? It either has support for a 13x/14x multiplier or it doesn't! Sheesh.

However, if he means K7T266 Pro2-A, which is a different beast entirely, then the situation changes. Then he can use pretty much any processor with a 100/133 MHz FSB. I can't determine it from your description reicherb because the K7T Pro2-A has a VT82C686B Chipset, while the K7T266 Pro2-A has VT8233A Chipset - you said it was VT8366A.

Edit: just confirmed with my friend that he can only go up to 12.5x on the multiplier, so, 1.2 GHz is the highest you can officially go on the regular K7T Pro2-A.

The manual states that it will support an 1800MHz CPU. I guess the biggest question I had was weather it would support 200/266FSB or just 200FSB.

What would happen if I put a 266FSB CPU in the board? Would it still work? Just at 200 x the multiplier?

Hi,
I think you have the same MOB as i'm using
K7T266 Pro2
part# MS-6380
Apollo KT266A (VT8366A & VT8233) Chipset

If this is your MOB, you can run an XP 2400+ with the newist BIOS
with the old BIOS it's only good for XP 1800
I don't know what a 2000 would do But why not just buy a 1700 or 1800 Thoroughbred and overclock it
you should be able to get 2200 to 2300 out of it
the 1700 Thoroughbred is $59 with shipping @ newegg

If that's what the manual stated, then you must have the K7T266 Pro2-A, since the non-266 version definitely can't go past 1200 MHz.

It's only a K7T200 I e-mailed support and apparently the manual is wrong. It will onyl support 12x200=1400Mhz.

Thanks guys.
