K7T Turbo LE: CPU Fan Header Burnt Out, Computer will not boot--HELP!!!

Hi there,

I have an MSI K7T Turbo w/o RAID and I burnt out the CPU fan header by accidently plugging in a fan that takes too much power. Now, the computer will not boot. I am assuming that this is because there is no fan header, but is there some sort of workaround for this? What should I do?

Any help/suggestions are appreciated!

Hey Tim, some motherboards will not boot if they're not getting an RPM reading from the CPU-fan header, as a saftey precaution against CPU-fan failure. There may be a workaround, I'll look at MSI's site and see if they say.

I downloaded the manual, but it doesn't shed any light on this issue.

If you mean by saying "the computer will not boot" that the computer still posts but comes up with a message something like:"hardware error" and halts; then go into the bios settings and disable cpu fan monitoring. If the computer does not post then I suggest you burned out something more than the fan header.

The box Tim is talking about is mine, I blew the header with a Delta 7500 RPM 60mm fan. I worked around it by running the power for the fan to the PSU and the RPM sensor wire from the Delta to the blown header, after reseating the sink with thermal grease (btw, radio shack grease is fine) it boots fine and runs cold. I blew out one of my fan headers on my msi mainboard... is there anyway to fix it so it'll work again?
