I bought an ECS K7S5A mobo about 6 months ago. I never set up the LAN connection because I was unable to get cable modem. I am moving this weekend so I will finally be able to get roadrunner (cable modem). When I enabled the LAN in the bios I get the found new hardware display when I boot into my OS. My system has both Windows 2000 Pro and Windows XP pro. I had no problems installing the software under W2K but it won't install under XP. How can I fix this? Is there an updated driver for this LAN for XP? Thanks
 
hhhmmm.... I had a friend who setup winXP on a K7S5A and if my memory serves me correctly, he didnt need to install anything. his lan just worked... maybe there is a drive somewere....
 
WinXP should have automatically detected the SiS900 LAN as soon as it boot up (as long as it's enabled in the BIOS). The latest LAN driver for Win2k/WinXP can be had from either Windows Update or ECS's download page. Speaking for myself, I've never had a problem with the SiS900 on-board NIC. In fact, it's one of the best I've ever used and many folks over at the athlonmb.com's ECS forum, even the ones who hate the motherboard, tend to agree there's nothing wrong the LAN component.
 
I went to www.sis.com and downloaded the latest Sis900 LAN driver, but I still get the same errot. "Invalid Data : Ethernet adapter not installed correctly" Anyone else have any suggestions? Do I need to have the ethernet cable hooked up for the driver to install correctly?
 
When you run the equivilent of winipcfg , can't remember what it's called under W2K or XP.... is the mac address given the same as the mac on the white tag on the printer port ?
This mobo will sometimes lose the mac adress when flashing the bios. I have had this happen on 1 of mine. There is a utility to correct and restore the mac address on the ECS site, it's on the bios page as I recall.

take a look maybe thats it. other than the 1 time I lost the mac after a bios flash the onboard nic has been great on all 3 of my K7S5As
