I have been experiencing some of the strangest hardware issues lately. Oh well, learning alot in the process.

I have been running an Ecs K7S5A and Athlon XP 1700 (palamino) for about a year without problems! Last week I had bought a new heatsink and fan (quieter setup) and when I installed the htsk/fan the processor wouldnt boot up. So I tried my Duron 750 and it booted. Tried the XP again with the original htsk/fan. Nothing! So I figured I fried the processor. Ordered a new XP 1700 (T-bred) from Newegg. Installed it and nothing. So I then decided to try my old XP 1700 in another mobo and it booted up fine!?!?

For what ever reason my K7S5A will work now with a Duron, but not an XP processor. Tried newest Bios and several different configs, but I can only get it to work with a duron.

I know this was a very buggy board when it first came out. But I havnt had a problem with it since day one. It isnt the Pro version but its been a great board for this time. Why in the world would it no longer run an XP and only a Duron now?

sounds like somthing to do w/ running on a 133mhz FSB, since the durons use a 100mhz FSB. Maybe your RAM can't take it? Did you reset the BIOS at all? If your using DDR try popping a stick of PC133 in instead.

I am having this problem since I defaulted my BIOS settings cause of some CMOS error I was getting, I have a K7S5A mobo with a 2100+ XP along with a Vantec aeroflow. I just thing the aeroflow is drawing too much power (3.84w) from the motherboard.

Chrisdragon,

That is interesting, perhaps that is why it started happening when I tried the new htsk/fan. Dont know. I'm exhausted trying to figure it out too.
