K7S5A Random Restarts?

After about 6 months of seemless use - i'm not starting to experience random restarts.. Here's the message the event log is generating..

The computer has rebooted from a bugcheck. The bugcheck was: 0x0000001e (0xc0000005, 0xa0085b94, 0x00000001, 0x7fff96ec). Microsoft Windows 2000 [v15.2195]. A dump was saved in: C:\WINNT\Minidump\Mini072502-04.dmp.

Can anyone help me interpret this?

its not uncommon for the k7s5a to experience weird problems like that when using a sub par power supply

seems like ive seen several posts in the last year where the k7s5a, suffering from random restarts, was fixed by getting a better power supply


but as was said above... check for a virus before going out and buying a new PS

Because unless you have up-to-date, properly configured antivirus software and/or much higher standards than the average Forum user, you may have downloaded something that wasn't what it looked like. Can't hurt to download a 30-day trial version of Norton AV, get the latest virus definitions, and run a scan...

I'm running an Antec 400w PS and i'm also using NAV w/ LiveUpdate - which is up-to-date in it's definitions. Can anyone interpret the error message that's being created?

install it first and run it under dos prompt.

But i will not keep too much hope about it giving you the exact result as these are for M$ programmer to tell you. (you have to pay for the support..., pay to ask.etc)
M$ said its either:
1. hardware problem
2. network problem
3. 3-rd party software.

which means all possible...


0x0000001e means its a general error message...

some q to ask, you computer restart when you
1. accessing network?
2. run some software?
3. since you add some software?

if its totally random, i will guess a hardware problem. May be memory. But if others, try to search what software is causing it..... good luck.

have you tried running any diagnostics on your memory?

memtest86 is a great little proggie that will let you know if your memory subsystem is causing any errors

I had this same problem on my board when I used both DDR slots with mismatched memory. It ran fine with either stick in either slot, but would randomly reboot with both in.
