K7S5A quick Audio driver questioj

Got a ECS K7S5A mobo ver 3.1. Windows Xp installed all the drivers except the onboard audio.
I went to the ECS website and there appears to be two audio drivers..
1. SIS 7012 ver 1.03e
2.C-media AC-9738 audio codec on board driver v0.21

The manual that came with the board is a ver 1 manual. Refers to the 7012 SIS635 ver 1.02.

Which drivers do I DL and install and how?

Also there seems to be an apps file for each driver...what does that do?

Thanks, Mac

p.s. Please kindly pay attentation on which kind of AC'97 codec chip on this board in case of you will have the manual installation. You can check the marking of chip which is close to the left side of PCI 2. To install incorrect audio driver could cause unexpected problem. Users are requested to have upon checking action before manual installation.

I saw that. I installed the SIS 7012 1.03c. They work but the volume leaves much to be desired. Does the AC97 codec do something else?
I'll be dammned if I can reed that sound chip on the motherboard.

Thanks, Mac

my ver. 3.1 has the SiS 7012 chipset.
besides, i doubt it would be working at all if you had the wrong driver..
you are using some type of amplifier right?

now if only SiS would make a linux driver for me 🙂

The onboard SIS audio on that board leaves much to be desired. I disabled it and threw in an old Turtle Beach Montego in there. Any soundcard is better than the SIS just because of how quiet it is.
