k7s5a pro underclocking CPU

For my first attempt at building a computer, I purchased the K7s5a pro and an AMD Athlon XP 2000+, but it does not appear to be clocking the CPU at full speed. The boot-up screen lists the CPU freq as 1250 MHz ... it should be 1667 MHz for the 2000+.

Any thoughts why it does not clock the CPU at the correct speed?

Besides the CPU, motherboard, and case, all the rest of the hardware has been pillaged from my old system.

Is it possible that some of my older components my not be compatible with the faster processor? (video, RAM, hard drive).
