k7s5a pro problem

i have the k7s5a pro mobo and it's having problems. first of all, the mobo is able to read the cdrom sometimes. sometimes it shows up in My Computer and sometimes it doesn't. Second, windows xp pro is taking hella days to boot up. It takes a long time for the monitor to turn on and then the windows xp boot up screen takes hella days to finally get into windows. i think maybe the mobo settings are wrong. can anyone help?
 
Check your BIOS settings. Is the CPU and RAM speed set right, for example? Is that an existing XP installation you've been using, or a fresh install?

Last time my system did this, my HDD died on me.

It didn't die all at once but it took 20 mins for windows to boot up.
