don't believe too much on the pcmark score.
Anyway, your HD scores look way too low. Try updating the chipset IDE drivers.

Thanks for responding. I was not able to find a newer driver on the SiS site, i have one from 1999 as my PCI IDE Controller. Any other recommendations? by the way, the primary is a 80gig 7200 rpm maxtor, the secondary is a 30 gig 5400 rpm maxtor.

Im curious as to what other people have set their bios settings to, as this seems to be the largest variable.

Ignore the 66 fsb reading. All madonion benchmarks show this mobo as 66.

The CPU score looks OK.

I'm guessing from the MEM score you have SDR, not DDR.

The HDD score is hosed! Do you have DMA enabled in Device Manager?

DMA is enabled. I have multiple partitions on the drives, could that cause it? I received an ATA133 card with the Maxtor 80 gig drive. Should i use the card? I was having a really tough time booting off of it. It made the boot process much longer. Do i want to turn of SMART? Anything else to check for?

The SiS chipset integrated IDE controllers use much less system bandwidth than does any
PCI card - because the former have their own high speed connection within the chipset,
thus data don't travel across the comparatively slow PCI bus.

Your throughput rates suggest that either DMA is _not_ running or your HDD is really old.

regards, Peter

Thank you peter! Where can i varify DMA settings on a win2k machine? I looked at the device manager -------> IDE ATA/ATAPI etc etc and right clicked ------> properties. Is there somewhere else i should check? I disabled ATAPI in my win2k start up as it said on some of the k7s5a faqs

You also want to turn off Smart Monitoring on the HDD. Update your drivers too.

My PCmark Score:
Operating System Microsoft Windows ME
DirectX Version 8.1

Mobo Manufacturer ECS
Mobo Model K7S5A
AGP Rates (Current/Available) 4x / 1x 2x 4x

CPU AMD Athlon(tm) XP/MP/4 1650 MHz
FSB 66 MHz
Memory 256 MB

Graphics Chipset NVIDIA GeForce3 Ti 200
Driver Name NVIDIA GeForce3 Ti 200
Driver Version 4.13.01.2185

CPU Score 4749
Memory Score 3022
HDD Score 624

If I compare mine with yours, I agree that the problem with your system is only in HDD score part. I enable SMARTdisk, use original IDE driver from Windows and make only 2 partitions in my HD. FYI my HD is Maxtor 80GB 5400rpm ATA 100 and my memory stick is PC2100 DDRRAM.

Hei Barrei, Compare to whose?.. compare to your system?.. of course all things are different, you use Gigabyte mobo, Northwood P4, and ATA133 HD, totally different system compare to mine. My one surely will have a lower score concerning my lower cpu speed and HD rate speed.

The reason why I posted my score was because I have almost similar specs with GIconsultant's one, (esp the same K7S5A mobo). I hope my posts could help him solving his low HD score problem.

and i appreciate it!

checking my settings, it says Use DMA if available, but it says its using PIO. How do i make it use DMA? and will having 4 partitions per drive cause low numbers like this?
