I have a friend who I built a system for:
K7S5A (onboard sound/lan)
1800+ XP
120 gb Western Digital SE
Dualboot 98SE/XP Professional
Mustek A3 EP Scanner (EPP)
He uses his scanner often, and in order for it to work it must be set from SPP to EPP. Every two weeks the bios is reset for some reason, without a "low" battery error. (133/133 is reset to 100/100, SMART is disabled, password on bios gone.) He was using the scanner when the light froze, he rebooted the machne, and defaults were reset w/o message. I sucessfully flashed the bios a month ago when rebuilding the system.. I replaced the battery today, but this mobo is 6 months old. Can a bad flash keep resetting the defaults? Also the XP "please activate before I self-destruct" timer went from 20 days to 0. (Was waiting to the last second to add hardware to XP's dump.)
Thanks for the help.
BTW, his old system was a w95 machine. He burned some CDs to using HP's CD-writer software (w95 only), and never finished the sessions. On the new machine XP and 98 lock up when the CD's are entered then locked up when put in the machine again.. One CD could be read, but choked duing the copy to HD and then locked up when put in the machine again.. Can XP native buring not handle multi-sesson? Is the TOC somehow corrupt or incompatable?
