k62 500mhz

I don't know if it'll fit, but I know it shouldn't work. you need a Socket 7 motherboard for the chip to fit and run, but for it to run at full speed you need it to be running on what is called a Super 7 motherboard, one which is based on a Via MVP3 or ALi Aladdin V chipset (I have the latter on my Super 7 comp).

No, first of all the K6-2 still uses the ZIF socket, which only has a pin in one edge removed, whereas the Athlon has two pins removed.
Also, they are not pin compatible anyway, use different commands and what not.

Why not get a cheap Duron - will give the K6-2 a run for the money anway.

NO, the K62 will not work on an Athlon board and an Athlon will not work on an older Socket 7/"Super 7" board either.

Just to correct RSMemphis: A cheap Duron will not give a k6-2 a run for it's money, it will crush it like a newbie installing a Golden Orb on a brand new XP 2000!! 🙂
