now i'm having trouble loading a wireles LAN card too.
the Linksys mfgr support drivers complain about a bunch of missing files too.
do people with older laptops like this resort to running winME since theres no way to get
needed support files from WindowsUpdate?
refresh install of 98se got errors about missing vbscript and java something files.
also the power LED of the Linksys card does not light when inserted.
i ripped open a brand new Gigafast-B card i had sitting here and when inserted
does nothing is not detected by windows on a new hardwware search. have not tried installing drivers for that one yet..
seems like the card slot isnt working?
the driver is installed and (texas Instrument) "working properly" according to deice manager but..
i uninstalled re-installed the com package thru win98se
"install new programs"
and also refresh-installed the OS. during which i got some complaints from win98 installer.
..something about vbscript or something-like and i saw java mentioned too.
are these Windows update issues? do i need to go to newer OS to beat this ?
any ideas how to confirm the PC CARdslot is working? its got a Texas Instrument driver loaded and "working properly" but i cant get windows to detect either an inserted Linksys nor gigabyte wirelss-B
cards
is there a VIA driver pack for the old K6 boards? the soundcard driver says Apollo 100mhz
but i doubt thats any good for IDE drivers etc.
the latest 1453 Via hyperion pack doesnt seem to apply.. although it runs and completes
fine..
i encountered a corrupt "streamci.dll" when installing the first sound driver and "msvcrt.dll + ntdll.dll" when installing the first Linksys wireles driver.
so whats causing all this? bad sound/nic drivers or bad chipset drivers currently running ?
I have Presario 1255 What I did was ti fresh install Win98se and then downloaded all windows updates. Once everything is in order I went to compaq website to collect all necessary drivers for win98se and they worked like a charm.
Linksys wireless nic has 2 LEDs on it.
The POWER LED should light up upon interting it no?
win98 should be able to detect new hardware and prompt for drivers?
my card slot seems sorta dead.
someone said theres a 16 bit PCMCIA card and a 32 bit. would that be the problem?
would ithe 32 fit in the 16bit slot ? if so that would be confusing and i confuse easily.
