is anyone REALLY using a k6-III+/450ACZ in a desktop motherboard. If YES, then which one? Won't boot in my tyan 1590s that is using a k6-3/400. thanks.

Check the K6 Forum at AMDZone.com. Alot of folks using and discussing the K6-3+ series.

Someone I know just bought a k6-3+ 450. They flashed their bios on FIC 503+ and overclocked to 600. Hes pretty happy with it.

Mine works great at 600Mhz in an EPOX MVP3G5 with the 4/12/2000 BIOS.

If you decide to go with the EPOX (GREAT board, in my opinion) just for the K6-3+, you can save some money by going with the G3 instead of the G5, since the K6-3+ won't let you use the full 2MB Cache on the motherboard anyway...

As for the board you have now, I'm not sure if it's the same model, but a friend of mine is also using a K6-3+ on a Tyan board and hasn't had a problem. He had to flash the BIOS to the most recent version in order for it to work, but it runs like a charm at 550Mhz.. 🙂

I just put one in the kids PC. Its an old ASUS P/I-P55T2P4 Intel HX chipset mobo. You need to have support for 2.0-2.1 Vcore maybe 2.2 max. Since the ancient old board doesn't have 100 MHz bus, I'm running it @ 6 x 75 = 450. Works like a charm. These things are pretty decent. 256k on die full speed cache .18u technology. Tigerdirect sells them for $50.

I did the same thing that Oldfart did! 🙂

Asus PI-P55T2P4 running stable at 450mhz

Damn was that a speed boost for it! 🙂

Gotta love ASUS. That old socket 7 HX chipset board had overclocking features way back then, and will even today, supports the latest socket 7 chip out there.

I want a K6-3+.. $50 US right?? hmm... I wish.. I guess I should pick one up before they all disappear eh?

I'm trying to save up for a new monitor though.. I guess that could wait (sigh.. another 6 months on a monitor that only has 640X480?).
