I have an EPOX MVP3G5 and an AMD k6III+ 450, i can run it fine at 550( 100x5.5 ) but whenever I change the bus clock I get a error in the win2k boot up. why cant i set it to 112?? i have the voltage at 2.2 i tried 2.4 and same thing happened. what is up??

Were you trying 5.5x112? 2.0V? What kind of memory you have? What PCI cards? There are a whole lotta variables. I'd try 4*112 at 2.0 with just the video card, and if that doesn't work, start raising the voltage. And finally, sometimes you're just unlucky...

its the cache, it cannot handle the 112mhz bus. you could try and get an intermediate bus using programs such as cpucool or softfsb.

how can you be so sure its the cache? It could be that his video card doesn't like those frequencies....or a PCI device....or maybe he was trying for 606mhz with 5.5 * 112 (he never did reply....) which is rather high. It could be numerous things...it certainly could be the cache, but without him saying that he disabled the cache (am I to assume you meant the L3 cache?) and had everything magically work, there's no way to be certain.

because almost all g5's cannot do 112 bus. the cache can do 103 maybe. Some of the latest g5's can do 112 but only the very latest. Thats how i can say that it is likely the cause.

With a processor that brings its own L2 cache, you won't see that much of a speed increase from raised FSB anyway.

It's my understanding that 2.2v is MAX for this chip, above that could be goodbye. Good Luck.

I have the same setup as you do, and no matter what, the board will just not do 112Mhz for the FSB (I've even experimented with other CPU's, disabled the cache, etc) no matter what I've tried. However, my K6-3+ is VERY happy with 2.1v at 600Mhz (6*100) using the x2 multiplier to get x6.

wow thats nice how exactly is that 2x done?? that should be great for me.. also i can run this chip at low votage too. 1.8 is that good?? or should i leave it at what the chip says?

your manual with have the settings for 2X (which will automatically run as 6X). In case you do not have a manual get one from epox website which shoukld have one. If you cannot get one post again as someone will be able to tell you, i have a g2 which is prob the same but i will not say the 2X settings unless you have no other option.
At 550 run at 2.0v as that wilol be good for stability (even if it seems stable with 1.8 run at 2.0 anyway). For 600 you may need 2.1 or 2.2. Lowest possible stable voltage will be required for 600 to run stable and not overheat.
