Setral:
My FIC 503+ supports K6-3 to 450 but it will not support the 450 3+ or any 2+'s without the new beta bios je4330.

Some mobos support the K6-3+ without any bios updates and others do not. It's kind of a crap shoot.

To everyone that wants a K6-3+ 450
There's a seller with a Dutch auction for 50 of these cpus for 59.00. There are 18 hours to go on his auction. His last auction for 50 of the 450 K6-3 brought 94 bids but the lowest was around 65.00 so everyone that bid gets this price. That's the rule on the Dutch auction. If PC Liquidator is indeed out, this is the cheapest around.
But remember there 18 hours from this post. And no I am not affiliated with this guy. I am just passing out info for those who want one. I got mine last Thursday from PC Liquidator and I guess they sold thousands in a matter of a few days. Mine is running on a FIC 503+ at 550 and getting CPUMark99 scores of 59.7 to 60. It's a fast cpu.

Here's the link to the auction:

Hello all! Yes we have run out of the CPUs. We had more orders going at a time than we could track and we have run out. We are working with our source to get more and fulfill ALL the orders and hope to have a final answer out by the end of the day if we will be able to get any more. The other comment is: the guy selling the 50 units on the auction is legit! He is a friend of mine! He bought his at the same time I bought mine! He just sells at auction and I don't. Thank you all for your support!

A guy I know in the U.S just got his k6-3+ but when he set the multiplier to 2x he actually got 200mhz???????, why is this happening, he previously had a k6-2+ and he had that set to 2x and it worked as 6x, does he have a faulty chip?, it runs fine at 615mhz using 111.94x5.5.
He's buying my chip for me and I only have a 100mhz FSB on my board so if my chip doesn't remap 2x as 6x I'll be stuck at 550mhz.

Problem solved!!!, it turns out his M/Board wouldn't run at 671mhz ( 111.94x6 ) he took the FSB down to 100mhz and it now remaps 2x as 6x successfully.

Who's running one of these on older boards(i.e. non-ss7)? Got an Asus SP97-V(SIS 5598 chipset) and an Amptron 9100(SIS something), that I'm contemplating running at 6x75, and I'm hoping they won't blow up.

BA: i'm betting that those old boards can't go down to 2.0v...anything higher than 2.2v would probably fry the chip..

2.1 on the Asus and 2.2 on the Amptron. I know enough to at least check that out.

we have the 5598 MB in stock and I did try it - Voltage worked out but multiplier didn't do too well. I got it to run, but I could not get a speed over 366MHz to be verified properly. If I had more time perhaps? I think a BIOS upgrade may have solved the problem.

Anyone else try the chip on that board?

Just got my CPU today. This is what happened to me on my BCM/GVC ALI Aladdin5 chipset board. First I put it in and set it to 2x100@2.1v(lowest my mb will go). It posted and said UNKNOWN-S CPU 350mhz then proceeded to boot up win2k and bsod with a "thread tried to close a process it did not own" error. Mind you, it took like 10 mins to boot up. THEN I changed the multiplier to 4.5 and it still posted at 350mhz and still was slower than hell but this time it didn't bsod. So now I flash to the newest bios and it detects that the CPU is a k6-3, but with both multiplier settings, I only get 350mhz and now my temp/voltage/fan sensors disappeared too. Seems like the new bios disabled all of them. Oh and I verified that indeed my cpu is running at 350 because that's what Motherboard Monitor tells me. I thought at first that the mb was lying to me because I run my P200mmx at 286mhz on that board and it posts at 266, so I was hoping that it was lying to me and I was really running at 600mhz, but that is not the case. Any suggestions?

I have an old Freetech P5F83 that goes all the way down to 2.0v in .1v increments and it runs this baby at 400(6x66) or 450MHz(6x75) wonderfully. I only have it run at 400 because I am using this thing for my Linux server and want to assure stability with the 66MHz bus.

There are some CPU features that aren't supported by my motherboard for this chip. However, I got a great suggestion from a fellow on the Hardware Doctor message boards named uart to boot to DOS, run his programs to enable those features, then use loadlin to boot Linux from DOS. Works great.

I had a K6-2+ in it and got the K6-3+ for kicks and sold the K6-2+ to a friend. Wow, this motherboard has new life with the K6-X+ line of chips. I sure am glad AMD decided to make them. :)

By the way, my motherboard recognizes the chip as a 486DX 66MHZ.:)

Deepthrot,
I am running a K6-III+ 450 @ 550MHz on a BCM VP1541 (BIOS version 1.08) with no problem. You don't say specifically which mobo and BIOS you are using. If your board is a VP1541, your BIOS is not the "latest" if it's not 1.08

If you need 1.08, I have a copy of the zip file on my HD.

Slickrockslim,

To go more into detail, this is what I did. I didn't know who my mb manufacturer was, so i went to motherboards.org and looked up the bios string id and got GVC, but could not find any info on that board on GVC's webpage. Then I noticed that motherboards.org listed BCM as affiliated with GVC so I go to BCM's site and look up boards with similar specs as mine. My mb bios at the time was dated 11/25/98 version1.03, and I noticed that on BCM's site, the VP1541 mb has the same date for version 1.03, so I figure this is probably the same board. I then proceeded to flash it with the newest version and it worked and posted, BUT my cpu would only register at 350 at 2.0 and 4.5 multipliers as explained in my earlier post. I also noticed that after bios version 1.06, I lose functionality of temp/volt/fan sensors on the mb. Did you ever have those sensors on yours? I've spent probably 3 hrs on it and i'm ready to give up. One cool thing that came outta this is that with 1.08 I can overclock my p200mmx to 300@100mhz. Not bad for an old p200 huh? If you can gimme any more suggestions, that would be great. Thanks alot.

Ok, I got my chip Tuesday afternoon.
Here is what I have for a setup.
M/B=FIC VA-503+ Rev.1.2A ECN4504
64MB Sdram PC100
I had to flash the BIOS with version JE4330 to get it to boot. First boot was at 450(100x4.5). Second at 500(100x5.0). The OS ran fine so will up the bus speed later today. Have to go to work now, ya know.
