After having to pull out my book for my system and double checking. I have an Antec MB5897 and I already knew it supported K6-3 processors, but I wasn't sure if I could get voltage low enough for the K6-3+, and I got lucky the manual shows the ability to set the voltage down to 1.6 possibly lower. Anyone know the best voltage to run these at? Its going to be running at either @ 100x4.5 or x5, not planning on OCing it too much, this is for my father's system, replacing a AMD k6 200 system.

Man, I ordered one these cpu's on Tues. On Thursday, I checked the site for tracking number on the package. It stated that it was enroute already. Wow, It will be here Monday for me. I can't wait to get.

I'll be running it on a FIC VA-503+ rev:1.2A

Why do I need the beta bios, the current manual shows it supports the voltage and multipler. What else do I need?

Because its best to have the bios actually recognise the chip, when I got my k6-2+ my bios didn't recognise the chip and my pc wouldn't post, so I got an updated bios that recognised the chip and now its fine, although most of the time if the chip is not recognised the pc still posts but you then need certain programs to get the full performance out of the CPU.

Guys...I ordered my chip on Wed. Oct. 4. I decided to go and check to see how the shipping was going on this. I put my order # in out popped an UPS tracking number..went to UPS' site and low and behold it said it was delivered to Pacific Heights, CA...only problem is that I live in Orlando, FL...so I called the CSR at PCLiquidators and talked to Vicky and explained to her what happend and she pulled the UPS sheets and read off my tracking # and my address associated with it...anyway to make a long story short...UPS would not admit doing anything wrong and Vicky said she had the original tracking receipt with my address on it, so somehow my package had the same exact tracking # as someone else. So Vicky said she would send me another CPU out today via 3 day priority...I think that was very nice of her since this didn't seem to be their fault...I give PCLiquidators 2 thumbs up in the CSR Dept.
By the way...THANKS VICKY

biennerienno, this chip will run circles around what you have know. Overclock it and it will be the best $55.00 dollars you ever spent. You will think you have a new system.

Well, ordered mine Wed. came in a little while ago. I had to flash the bios on my va503+ to JE4330 so it would boot. After flashing, set it for 500 and booted right up. My cpumark scores show about 75% increase over the K6-2 550. Changed it to 5.5x and been running super since. Been trying all kinds of things and no crashes yet, fingers crossed. Maybe I'll try a few different settings later. Not a bad investment for $55.

Well, turns out I've been running my K6-III at 2.0V for over a year ... so today the package came, and I just popped the k6-III+ in, and its going fine, in my Asus TX97E.

[edit] holy freaking sh!t this thing runs cooler than my 486

Sweet~ I am running a K6-2 500 OCed to 550Mhz at 2.2V, so would you suggest me to go ahead and upgrade to this K6-III+ CPU?? It's rated for 450Mhz right? how high have you been able to OC it to? and can you be more specific about what benchmarks that you ran with the 75% increase? Sorry for all the questions, it's just that I just got my K6-2 500 retail CPU in August and I'll have to sell it if I want to get this K6-III+ CPU.

First of all the Processor is a 450. And you can OC it to 600 and with a good Heatsink/Fan you'll never worry about heat, because as it is this thing puts out VERY LITTLE. Its supposed to be used in Laptops therefore less heat is a must! :)

Secondly, It has ***256k L2 on-chip Cache***. Any K6-2 systems will be completely blown away. As someone mentioned up to a 75% noticable increase over a K6-2 450 system. And since you can OC it to 600 pretty smoothly you can definately push it over.

Last thing, the K6-3+ chips recognize the 2x multiplier as 6x. So even if your board wasn't designed to run 6x you can set it to 2x and benchmark the processor. at 2x setting, 100mhz you should see it run at 600mhz.

If I messed up or anything, someone fell free to correct :)

thanks for the quick reply~ my mobo is Tyan S1590S Trinity 100 board, which has 5.5x multiplier and down to 2.0V setting. I tried the 2x trick with my retail K6-2 500 to push it to 600Mhz and it does post up at 2.4V but crashes during Win98SE bootup (I am using the retail HS/fan/thermal cmpd). As I said before I am running it right now @ 550Mhz, at the default 2.2V (which is awesome considering the "true" K6-2 550Mhz is speced to run at 2.3V). Has anyone similar to my current set upgraded to this K6-III+ 450Mhz??? and if so what do you think? I just want to get all the facts before I take the plunge!! Thanks!

The 256k L2 is running at full speed of the chip. Your 64k is running at half speed. This is quite a bottle neck. They have also added new 3D instructions they took from the Athlon. Better buy before there sold out.

My K6-III+ just arrived today. One of my motherboards is a Tyan 1590. I tried it at a 100MHz FSB. It would boot at a maximum multiplier of 3x. On the boot screen it showed:
-MMX CPU at 66MHz

oh really? is that just a glitch that a BIOS update will fix? how about will it boot into Windows, and does it run w/out any problem with the S1590 mobo? And when you run system benchmarks/utilities does the CPU shows up as 450Mhz or so??? I appreciate your help! I just don't wanna buy this CPU and find that I have to get a new mobo in the process as well.

adolfmuhammed,

so your setup won't let you boot into Windows??? "... boot into DOS"

whoa, that's not very good to hear... I was hoping I can just buy this K6-III+ 450 and replace my current K6-2 500 (550 OCed).

Unless you know where I can find a Duron + M/Board and PSU for $54 then I think the k6-3+ is a much better upgrade.
