I checked after I posted this, and had replies.. But couldn't post a reply for some reason, I get an error that it can't find a file or something. :-\

well anyway, does anybody have much else to say about it? When my sy5ema+ arrives, I think I'll first get everything running perfectly with my K6-2/350, then give the K6-3+ a shot. I just want to know if there are any absolutely crucial things I must know or do before going ahead with it... Don't want to fry another board! :Q

I see people using 5.5x and whatever FSB.. I remember my VA-503+ having 5.5x multiplier, but I didn't see 5.5 in the manual I printed from Soyo's site.. But maybe the board has it and it's just not in the manual or something? I don't know.. oh well.

Well I think as long as I don't stupidly plug in things wrong when I set it up, I should be fine. It'll be dissapointing if my K6-3+ doesnt' work though. :( Maybe I fried it when I tried it at 600 last time, who knows..

Start off low. Dont try for 600 right away. Just go for 450 at first. Be sure you are @ 2.0 Vcore! Hopefully, you didn't fry the chip last time.

Thanks for the input Oldfart!

Yeah, I'm definitely not going to start with 600. I'll start with the default setting. But when I first get the board, I'm going to check the revision and see the chances of the K6-3+ working with that revision, before I try it out. If my chances are too low, I'll stick with the K6-2 @ 412.5, otherwise I'll give the K6-3+/450 a shot.

K6-3+ uses 2.0v and the mobo has 2.0v - but keep in mind my old mobo had 2.0v too and it's dead now. :)

Of course I will keep everything standard and default to start off.

I used to have a 5EMA+ and a K63-450.

As long as you are not using Win95(have to get the patch)

The combo was pretty stable for me, was able to get it over 500, can't remember exactly what settings, but it wasn't much over 500.

Semper: Yeah, sounds like a regular K6-3. I'm not really worried about anything like that. The K6-3+ is a mobile CPU for laptops but it's still Socket 7 - it works in desktops too but not that many motherboards have much support for it, that's the thing.

Oh and also, that's why you weren't able to get much over 500.. It's a normal K6-x cpu. K6-2's weren't known for their overclocking ability, same story with K6-3. But the K6-2+ and K6-3+ were MUCH better. I had the K6-3/450 at 600 and benchmarked it and shut down all without a problem.. My problems all came after.. I'm thikin some kind of amperage prob on the mobo that fux0red things up afterwards. I really don't know.

Good luck RSI.. I'm still trying to figure out what to do with my K6-3+ after finding out that my mobo REVISION is what keeps it from running properly...

that makes me so angry, I'm so damned close, yet so far... my revision has some sort of hardware difference to the older ones, which totally ruin K6-3 and K6-3+ performance down to K6-2 300 or lower levels..

u read it right, the older revisions of this motherboard work FINE with the K6-3+, but not the newer ones..

so I might have to sell this CPU, seeing as how it's pretty stupid to try to buy a new mobo for it..

Soccerman, explain more on not "running properly". I have one on a old ASUS T2P4 HX chipset mobo. It doesn't officially support the K6-3+ either. I have to run a few simple utilities to enable the functionality of the chip. Is this your problem? If you have the 2.0 Vcore and can boot up with the chip, you should be able to also put the tweaks in to get it working at full speed. If this is the case, LMK and I'll elaborate.
